Constantine now gave imperial property to the church including the Lateran in Rome. On this site, one of the great cathedrals of Rome, St. John Lateran, still stands today. Constantine not only recognized Christianity but made many contributions and enacted laws that helped it spread. He also became involved in Christianity. He felt that, as emperor, he had a responsibility to help and protect the faith.
The King chose Henry Yevele as the chief mason and Hugh Herland as the carpenter, both accomplished men in their fields, to be responsible for the renovations to the hall. Yevele added huge buttresses to support the walls, which had wooden beams running horizontally along them t... ... middle of paper ... ...2002). Presently, it’s no secret that the Westminster Abbey was the location of arguably one of the most publicized weddings in the world, the royal wedding of prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011. It is also the final resting place of 17 monarchs, and contains some form of commemoration for many significant people in Britain. The building has a rich history and was inspired by the likes of cathedrals such as Chartes, Amiens and Reims.
The rib vaulting which is gothic in style was the first to be used outside of Italy. It was used to create a great sense of height from inside. The cathedral also has a great example of proto-flying buttresses, which along with the transverse pointed arches are also the earliest in England. Together they made the cathedral one of the greatest in Europe. I also believe the centre tower had a large part to play in the cathedral becoming a world heritage site.
St. Peter’s Basilica is now known to be the largest Christian church in the world and it is by far the most impressive one as well. Wren did not give up on his dream of a classical cathedral. The style of the building and hidden designs are fascinating. I chose the dome because at the time it was one of the largest structures in London. It was also the most complicated part of the building and is the most ornately decorated area of the cathedral due to the fact that Wren was determined to change the way the clergy and Royal Commission viewed the church. The dome and cathedral were seen as a beacon of hope for the citizens of London at the time of World War Two.
Over the last millennium, a striking Cathedral devoted to St. Paul has been a precious jewel for the city of London. It sits at the top of Ludgate Hill, the highest point in the City of London. The present St Paul 's Cathedral, London, is an Anglican cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of London and the mother church of the Diocese of London. Regularly as the Cathedral is at the centre of many nation-wide events, innovations have been examined, and drastic new thoughts have found expression under the iconic dome. Bearing in mind all those occasions, it is certain that they would have left behind some physical evidence as well as reverberations in the imperceptible retention of the Cathedral itself.
Richardson served on the Staten Island Commission, and then moved to Brookline, MA in 1874 after completing several commissions in Boston. Richardson then designed Trinity Church during his remaining twelve years that he spent in Massachusetts. Trinity Church is a prime example of revival architecture. When the “New Republic” of the United States gained its independence, the “New Democratic Citizens” wanted their place in history reflected in their architecture. The people of the 18th century were proud people, with rights, rights to build homes and communities of their own.

Saint Patrick's Cathedral, one of New York's greatest cathedrals, is located in Manhattan at 14 E. 51st St. The main reason the cathedral was built was to affirm the ascendance of religious freedom and tolerance. Thousands of poor immigrants and one hundred three prominent citizens helped pay contributions toward the church. The prominent citizens paid approximately one thousand dollars each. This cathedral supports the idea that not one single generation builds a cathedral, but rather the past, present, and future generations do. According to the official website for St. Patrick's Cathedral, the cathedral was first opened in 1879, after it had begun construction in 1858.
