Paintings of different time periods have their own unique styles which lead to the different styles of work even though they have the same theme. Comparing Gerbrand van den Eeckhout's work to Michelangelo's work and the work on the doors of Bishop Bernward, the artists use different techniques to depict the same topic of works-the fall of man, which makes different understandings and expressions on the audience.
Assessing the style of the work, Eeckhout's work is close to the baroque style compared to Michelangelo's one. The baroque art pays greater attention to the use of color and shadow, more romanticism and pursues the balance of the composition. The depiction of the human figure in Eeckhout's work is not as meticulous as Michelangelo's work which focuses on the realism and naturalism of the human figure as an iconic high …show more content…

Eeckhout's work is an oil painting on the panel, Michelangelo's work is a fresco and the other one is a Gunmetal casting. As a result of it, the color of Eeckhout's work is more realistic and transits naturally compared to the work on the doors which there is only one color on it. Deep and light green colors together combine to create the dense forest that gives the audience a visual and spiritual enjoyment due to the use of analogous color which achieves color harmony. On the contrary, Michelangelo uses simple colors to create his work because it is more difficult to paint a fresco that the process is more complicated and limited using of color. The transition of color is rigid and the background is plain with blue and white. In addition, figures in Eeckhout's work are prominent because of the flexible use of shadow and light that the contrast between the darker background and figures make people focus on Adam and Eve in Eeckhout's work.
