Secondly, the Americans and Vietnamese are free to choose their food. Both cultures are cooking food and meals are included with vegetables and fruits of all kinds. Food processing in Americans do not lose too much time, the most of people can buy food it has been cooked in the supermarket. Food culture is different in Vietnam, people spent more time cooking. Americans like to eat at restaurants which have been processed food because that way can save a lot of time for some people finish the job late. The Vietnamese people prefer to cook for their families, cooking together make them feel warm and too close each other. In the U.S, some people do not have a primary food, but with the Vietnamese people rice is an integral part of every meal.
Vietnam has a very rich and cultural diverse background dating all the way back to 1066 when William the Conqueror invaded and paved the way for English colonization. The French had been colonizing since the 19th century. The French role in Vietnams history is critical; they started out by bringing these simple peasants to the latest technology of farming and hunting (Yancey 37). The French helped these people out greatly in the beginning, but like all stories of occupation go they just got worse. They started forcing rules and laws on the people of Vietnam. Thus started the First Vietnam War, also known as the Indochina War between France and Vietnam. "The French possessed military superiority, but the Vietnamese had already the hearts and minds of the country. (38). Even from the beginning the Vietnamese had the odds to there favor. The French looked at the wars in numbers and how many lost on each side. They gathered from all the battles that they were winning because the Vietnamese casualties far outweighed the French; nonetheless they were wrong. To a certain point the French were fighting a game that they could not win at any cost. The French had the military superiority but the Vietnamese had the manpower and the Guerilla tactics. The Indochina War ended with French loosing terrible at Dienbienphu, where a whole French garrison was wiped out.
Culture can be found in every aspect of life, even if it is not easily identified. Culture can range from the way someone holds his or her head, to his or her taste in music, to the way he or she speaks. It is truly everywhere. The Vietnam War began in the year 1954, after the ascension to power of Ho Chi Minh, who was a communist leader in North Vietnam. The leader was spreading communism, and because the United States wanted to stop the spread, it sent military troops to aid South Vietnamese to stop this vice. The war saw about 3million people die with the inclusion of 58,000 American soldiers. About 150,000 people were wounded during the war. In 1975, South Vietnamese government surrendered the war after the communist forces forced them to surrender. Vietnam unified communism and became a Socialist Republic. Although decades have passed since the occurrence of the Vietnam war, the American culture, which was partly born as a result of this war, is celebrated today.
As we all know, all cultures have their own unique ways that separate them from each other. For example, Armenian culture and American culture. Cultural shame and social stigma are the primary reasons hindering Vietnamese American parents from recognizing mental illness in their children and utilizing mental health services and support. There is no significant difference in comparing the first generation with the second generation of Vietnamese American in terms of their views or perspectives on mental health. All those people of Vietnam and America celebrate their wedding events, but the way celebrations are differences include in planning, dresses, and observances besides the similarities in those areas.
