There are many factors that influence the food choice behaviours. It is not only determined by physiological, nutrition need, but is also influenced by social and cultural factors. Cultural factors influence food selection behaviour while values and beliefs are core aspects of any culture and shape perceptions of food, health, and well-being. The background and culture of an individual will have big influence on his food choice, and the social interactions will discerning on the view point of his food choice and also eating behaviour.
According to Murcott (1989) and Shepherd (1989), there are many factors that influences a person’s choices, including marketing and economic variables as well as social, cultural, religious or demographic factors. According to the Grunert, Brunsø, Bredahl & Bech, (2001) there are consumers that treat the production methods and non-innovative method of food preparation as an important feature to value the food safety in their lives. Based on the research of Glanz et al., (1998), “age positively predicts the perceived importance of nutrition and the health effects of food; it becomes more important as people age and is most valued by older adults”. Adolescents are the most likely toward eating opposed with healthy diet, they are said to be less concerned about nutrition compared to the elderly. (Rozin, 2002). This is supported by a qualitative research that conducted by Neumark-Sztainer et al., (1999); Story and Resnick, (1986), as the results showed that most of the adolescents do not perceive a need to change their eating behaviour as their future seem so far away.
