Between the book and the movie there were a variety of similarities as well as a margin of differences. A few of the main differences was the point of view, the emotions felt from the story, and how the characters are portrayed and/ or interpreted. The book itself has several conspiracies, such as whether or not the death of Myrtle was truly an accident. The movie however, has several interpretations of these conspiracies due to the several versions of the movie and there being only one book. Some of the points and topics that are viewed in the book line up [although] in a different order. Daisy being filled to the brim with jealousy, rage, and hatred against the poor mistress of her husband, Tom Buchanan as portrayed at the dinner table earlier in the book, she attentively and intentionally hit Myrtle that night. In the movie [version 2013] It had been portrayed as an accident and Gatsby had the wheel. He fled the scene without knowing whom or what he had hit and/ or run over. He was eventually killed for her death AND the affair with Myrtle that he didn’t have. Tom had placed the affair in Gatsby’s name because he had disliked him and wanted to avoid any ties with Myrtle’s husband’s anger. In the book Gatsby had been rightfully accused of bootlegging. Not the affair with Myrtle, which was left unknown to Wilson, nor her murder. In the movie he was rightfully accused of bootlegging and murder. Tom lied about Gatsby’s affiliations with Myrtle, whom of which Gatsby knew of no such existence. In the book Gatsby’s affiliations with Daisy were merely several exchanges of words following the marriage to Tom.
