DBQ Essay The government should treat the south the same way they treat the north they should both be equal not different. The North had the highest population overall, number of soldiers,number of factories,and miles of railroad tracks. The south factories should built very nice how the north factories are. Also the south should have the same rights as the north. Why is the government so selfish? The Southern States seceded from the Union which led to the American Civil War because the South and North had many conflicts with each other and could not find a solution, there was the section division, and it showed the South and North had different views on slavery. Document 3 says “the south thus quickly established a rural way of life supported by an agricultural economy based on slave labor ….. The north developed an intricate railway system and shipping industry to transport the manufactured goods” ( Doc 3). This quote means that the south was established quickly but in a rural way and the north was developed in a intricate railway system. The Southern cotton plantation in the 1850s looked like it was a vacant house and it was just built but the pittsburgh factories in the 1850s was very well done like it was just built. Lastly, it showed the South and North had different views on slavery. Harriet Beecher says that “ to show that slavery was evil and that Fugitive Slave Law was unjust” ( Doc 4) . Harriet means that the North and South had different views on slavery. Harriet Beecher was an author that wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin in 1852 it was the best selling book so that is how you know that a lot of people might join to help free states
