What is civil war? Many people have this question. Some are wrong, and some are right. Civil war is caused through one countries internal issue (Civil War Causes Fact Monster). Examples could be: political issue social issues, or even issues of equality between races in one country. Some of these events are the causes of the American civil war. Let’s start with some of the effects of the war.The American civil war was the most costly war ever fought on American soil. It took a long time for the American society to become stable after to the war. Along with that,out of the 2.4 million solders’ that fought in the war, 620,000 of them were killed during the war.Millions were injured (The History Channel Website). The society in the north was completely different than the society in the south. The north was more industrialized than the south was. Northerners worked in the factories and lived in the bigger cities like New York City. Northerners wanted to develop industry in the south to expand the American economy. Southerners did not agree with the northern ways. The south was mostly all plantation owners. In the south, they pushed slavery. Slavery was southerner’s way of life. That’s how families made their money. They grew cotton, or some kind of food and sold it to the market. Plantation owners had slaves to help them pick all there product. Most plantation owners had anywhere from five to ten slaves per plantation (United States History). Along with that, the majority of the southern states were all slave states, and the north was mostly Free states. The difference between a free state and a slave state is that Free states did not allow slavery to take place amongst the states. The moments that lead the first state to secede from the union was the election of President Lincoln. All the southern politicians were outraged that Lincoln won the election. Lincoln got no votes from the southern states to support his victory (United States History). South Carolina was the first state to secede from the union. Once South Carolina seceded, many other southern states soon followed their action of succession (United States History). The states that followed were: Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee (The History Channel Website). All these seceded states created their own separate union, The Confederates States of America. The Confederates did have a democracy government and elected Jefferson Davis as the President (United States History). As a new country, the Confederates were not very well off as an economy. Once Britain and France discovered their secession, they decide to support the seceded states (United States History). All the seceded states had the same reason they seceded, to keep slavery. They realized that slavery was on its last leg in America. The only option they had in order to keep slavery was to secede from the country
