favor Biff. Although Happy adored Loman, and devoted his life to making his father proud, a true sign of love and respect, Willy Loman still neglected his younger son.
Another transparent glimpse at Loman non compression of love and like, in regards to parenting style, is how he goes about indoctrinating his children to love him. Willy is ignorant that his style of parenting thoroughly teaches his children to like him rather than love him. This is because he builds their foundation of love from the lies conjured up by his alternate perception of reality. In simple terms "He interacts with his family only in the context of how successful he is, and since this existence is a lie, his relationships with them are empty" (McClinton-Temple 4).
Furthermore upon learning of his father’s infidelity, Biff and his father’s relationship become completely tarnished. Once again valuing well-likeness grandeur than love, and further foiling his own future, rather than attempting to reconcile Biff’s love for him, Loman, instead attempts to be once more, well-liked by his son.
The thin line between love and well-likeness Willy Loman walks on takes him directly to insanity. Loman reaches a point in his life’s journey where he is at the lowest he can be. His inability to distinguish the difference
