Martin Luther King jr. was a pacifist who fought for black rights(5). Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United states, and one of the most respected (Abraham Lincoln). Abraham Lincoln was a hard worker and a well respected President (Abraham Lincoln). Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky (Abraham Lincoln). His schooling was cut short so he could work to help support his family (Abraham Lincoln). Later in life, he ran for the Senate and lost twice before winning it (Abraham Lincoln). Lincoln taught himself law, but never got a college degree (history.com). He and Mary Todd got married in 1842 (history.com). Lincoln served as President from March 4, 1861 to April 15, 1865 when he was assassinated(3). He was the sixteenth President of the United States and was very well-respected (history.com). Lincoln was unpopular with Illinois voters for his strong stance against U.S. war
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929(4). Martin Luther King Jr. studied medicine and law but, like his father and grandfather, he later became a pastor(4). He was a pacifist who believed in nonviolence(4). He fought for his freedom by having marches, sit ins and other nonviolent protests(6). King traveled all around the world to give lectures on nonviolent protests to spread awareness by giving speeches(5). He was assassinated before one of his nonviolent protests, in this case a march, on the balcony of his hotel(4). His death caused many riots around the country(6). James Earl Ray pleaded guilty for the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. and was sentenced to 99 years in prison(4). After years of mourning members of Congress signed a bill creating a U.S. federal holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr(4).
