On Friday September 11th, 2015 our group decided to commute to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in order to conduct an interview with Nate Davis, a respectable figure in his community. During our interview we discussed various topics such as duties and responsibilities, organizational information, organizational financials, organizational budgeting, financial approach, financial challenge and opportunities, and advice for young professionals. After conducting the interview here are our findings. Mr. Davis is a Recreation Supervisor for Hargraves Community Center, he is responsible for overseeing the operations of Hargraves. Hargraves has a total of 5 full time employees and 20 temporary employees (counselors, lifeguards, etc.) throughout the year. Mr. Davis proposes a budget that he sends to the Director of Parks and Recreation, ultimately, the town council has to approve. He stated that it can take up to six to seven months to be for the process of developing a budget and getting it approved. It is noted that some projections but not all are based off the previous year. As far as the finances that he has to budget, he has to consider salaries and the maintenance cost to keep the center functioning properly. Recently, Hargraves yearly compensates full time staff around $232,902.00 and part time staff $33,198.00. Maintenance cost can vary but for the budget sheet he presented to us we only decided to list a few: Phone- $6,400.00, Electricity- $28,000.00, Gas, Water & Sewer- $11,500.00, and Custodial Services- $23,813.00 when added all together it totals $69,713.00. As a key revenue stream, Hargraves Community Center along with other recreation facilities are funded by a non-profit organization called, “Friends of Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation.” The organization was created to beautify parks, greenways, recreational programs and facilities. Some of the key contributors for the organization are World Overcomers Christian Church, Dollar General, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield also anyone can donate. When it comes to determining what approach to use towards financial decisions. For short term the town may meet, discuss, and develop revenue streams or for long term take out bonds to fulfill costly decisions. The software used for the majority of the Parks and Recreation department of Chapel Hill is the “Rec Trac”. “Rec Trac” is an integrated parks and recreation management software that increases their efficiency and productivity, while also providing management with extensive reporting and
If I were Holbrook my initial goal would be to correct the water and sanitary sewer systems problem. I believe it is the community responsibility to pay for the up-keep and maintenance of the two facilities, because it is the community who is reaping the benefits of these facilities. I would recommend the council to combine the sewer (330,800) and water (158,090) expenditures to the sewer (113,000) and water (379,350) capital program expenditures, and incorporate the two as one revenue fee. This would allow the revenue fees to pay for the operating cost and the reconstruction cost of the two facilities. Making them one fee would give the council more leeway in increasing total revenue cost for these services. In general, people tend to see one bill instead of two as a deal instead of a problem. This is almost like the buy one get one free philosophy; you know the store has raise the price of the item you are purchasing so that you are paying for the item you’re getting free. The propose revenue fee would total 648,170. The 700 water customers and the 3000 sewer customers would pay for this fee. Speaking with the Assistant Village Manager, Maggie Jablonski, and a Trustee, Chris Prochno, gave me insight into their daily lives in Elk Grove Village. They were very open and welcoming to the idea of an interview and made me feel comfortable during the process. The most difficult aspect was being put in contact with them for the interview. I had to schedule the interviews with the Executive Coordinator. She was very helpful and easy to work with, even though it took the most time.
This paper is based on an interview of a male who is in the middle adulthood stage of life. For the purpose of this assignment, I refer to my subject as John. John is 39 years old Caucasian male, he is average height and average weight. He was born on August 4, 1978 in Baton Rogue, Louisiana. She is glad to come to the United States now she is living in the city of Fredericksburg with her husband and children ,she lives in the apartment, so asked her what do you like and what you do not like about your home ? She says I like my home because It is a good community and sometime i do not like it because i live at the second floor af the apartment and my children play at home it make my neighbor upset . She says I would like to buy house in the future and i would like to move from this Apartment . She says she has two kids, one boy and one girl and she is married ,her cousin also lives in the United States , most of her relatives live in her home country and she misses her mom more than anybody else.
Interviewing and research skills are needed within the social work profession. Effective communication skills are one of the most crucial components of a social worker’s job. Every day, social workers must communicate with clients to gain information, convey critical information and make important decisions (Zeiger, 2017). This interview experience was an opportunity to explore the daily challenges and rewards of a licensed social worker. I was excited for the opportunity to interview a social worker in the gerontology sector as this is a specialty I am considering. This meeting allowed me to explore the educational steps of being a social worker, practices of the agency, the clients who are served, and the challenges the agency has.
We are a 501-C3 non-profit youth skateboard club trying to expand. Our membership currently consists of fifty local families living within the town of New Hope! Many families from surrounding towns have begun to show an interest in joining our organization so their children could also have a safe environment to improve their skills and enjoy the sport of skateboarding. Our organization realized we needed a permanent home for our skate club, we needed an official skate park within our town to continue to grow and provide our children a place to improve their skills on a daily basis.
Evaluating Cooper’s Ice Center’s situation, Claude Cooper is looking to increase his profits. He is doing a few things right. For instance, his hockey program is doing well and is contributing largely to his profits. Along with keeping his hockey program, Cooper should also keep the public skating. While this is not bringing in revenue now, there is a great potential in the program. Over 700 hundred people could attend this event and it would increase revenue in concessions. Their facility is the only ice rink located in the northern city with 450,000 people. This means there is a great market for public skating. Have you ever just met someone and feel as though you have some odd connection with them? Well, I have experienced this feeling by going out of my comfort zone and interviewing someone I would not have thought I had much in common with. I chose to interview one of my coworkers. I was really fascinated to learn about how much she has been through over the course of her life. It was a lot of fun getting to know her, and being invited to such a delicious dinner while I asked her thousands of questions about her life. It’s fascinating to see how strong a person can be to endure so many trials and tribulations, but still continue to overcome them and live life to the fullest. According to Grossman and Furano (1999), each year Americans volunteer more than twenty billion hours of their time for a greater cause. Volunteers are the lifeblood of many organizations and programs, and those offered by parks and recreation agencies are no exception. Volunteers “play a vital role in providing a healthy, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate youth…experience for children” (Wiersma & Sherman, 2005, p. 337). It is critical for managers to know how to recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, retain, and reward the people who sacrifice their time and efforts for the betterment of the community through youth programming. “Many [organizations] do not utilize volunteers as well as they could, and are reluctant to invest time and resource in improving their volunteer program” (Choudhury, 2010). This paper will address the relationship between park and recreation managers, volunteers, and youth program participants in order to create positive experiences for all involved.
I was excited to participate in this interview based on the fact, I have only worked at one daycare center, which they do not prepare food for the students. At the dance where I gathered my information, I learned that because the was opened for county workers and young mothers and placed at the local Technology High School and Collage the students in the Culinary Arts program are in charged of meal planning, prep and cooking then brought over where the teachers serve the food. The students are in charge preparing breakfast and lunch and the daycare provides two snacks, of either goldfish, pretzels, and what seemed to me mostly carbohydrate snacks. The snacks are mostly from donations by the parents of the children at the daycare. In the future,

I interview Dan Liptak a special education teacher at The Hawthorne Country Day School a nonprofit organization considering students through various disabilities. Hawthorne Country Day School is a non-profit/private school wherein students have Autism. Notwithstanding has learner’s kindergarten to age 21. The students categorize insufficient assistant ahead of elevated facilitation. There are several students who arrive from various school districts in New York. For this assignment I interviewed the Chief Technology Officer, Keith Schlarb, for the Worthington City Schools. The Student Information System that Worthington City Schools uses is Infinite Campus. Our district transitioned to this system four years ago. Basically anyone that works in the district, including both classified and certified staff have access to Infinite Campus. The amount of access depends on their position in the district. Parents and students also have access to the system as well. Both parents and students are able to access IC through a portal as well as a mobile app. The mobile app was an addition this past year. With the improvement of technology, as well as student access to mobile devices, the app was an obvious addition. When I asked Schlarb what data is collected through IC, he laughed and said “Everything!” Beginning with all demographic information for all students as well as staff that are a part of the district to student grades. It is fair to say IC collects all the data that is required by EMIS (educational management information system) but then goes well above these requirements to collect data our district needs, such as individual student grades. The data is first and foremost used to satisfy our state and federal requirements. We collect the data through IC and then periodically programs are run that filter the data needed straight to EMIS in order to meet our state and federal requirements. In addition
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
The person I interviewed is a thirty eight year old mother of two young children. As I previously stated in unit 2 discussion 2, this family is originally from the Caribbean. Mom reported that she was separated from her young children for 10 years; a 13 year old male and 11 year old female. Mom lived in Coney Island, New York in a two bedrooms apartment in one of the projects and dangerous neighborhood for couple years, but recently moved to a better neighborhood in Pennsylvania hoping to give her children a fresh start. Both children have severe behavior issues and are in need of a lot of support, which includes mental health services, but the father wants to be kept out of the children’s care as he fears people will stigmatize his children
