Speaking with the Assistant Village Manager, Maggie Jablonski, and a Trustee, Chris Prochno, gave me insight into their daily lives in Elk Grove Village. They were very open and welcoming to the idea of an interview and made me feel comfortable during the process. The most difficult aspect was being put in contact with them for the interview. I had to schedule the interviews with the Executive Coordinator. She was very helpful and easy to work with, even though it took the most time.
The first interview I scheduled was with the Assistant Village Manager, Ms. Jablonski. We had a phone conversation that made it seem like she did not have time for the conversation. She had my questions ahead of time and was able to prepare. She mentioned that she was busy and only had twenty-five minutes to talk and said she would not have any other time to speak to me. I felt rushed and pressured into picking the most important questions from my list. The fact that it was a phone conversation made it even more difficult because I barely had time to prepare to take notes and that put a damper on the excitement I had for the interview. It made me feel like she didn’t have time for me or, even more so,
I at least expected them to have the same topics of importance. It is obvious that Elk Grove Village cares about their industrial and business sector and is trying to maintain it, but their justifications and reasoning for its importance are different. To the Trustee, it was for the benefit of the residents. To the Assistant Village Manager, it was to benefit their funds. This shows the difference in relationships with their residents. As I mentioned, the Trustee takes a hands on approach and that is applicable to this situation too. She wants a better community for her residents, not just herself. The Assistant Village Manager is focused on revenue and the taxes that come from businesses located in the
While I personally support the development, I respect the Committee’s opposition to the development. As a resident and voter, I find it appalling that the Council disregarded the concerns of so many residents in their vote to rezone the property. The entire rezoning process has been a haphazard, schizophrenic mess. I believe the best course of action for the Township should have been to hold a nonbinding referendum before the Council voted on the rezoning. Hopefully, the Council has realized the errors of their ways and will conduct future Township business in a much better way. Lastly, regardless of how the Superior Court rules on the issue, I hope the Committee stays involved in the planning and development process. Only with proactive community involvement will the Crossroads development become a great place for all of Mahwah’s residents to enjoy.
Without a structured protocol, I did not know where I should have developed follow-up questions. In some points of the interview, I received a whole bunch of information and became overwhelmed. There were some pauses during my short interview. Sometimes, the interviewee waited for me to ask more questions. She even kept asking me “Do you want to know anything else?” After first twenty minutes of the interview, I really felt hard to keep track with the interview. I was abashed and a little bit panicking to propose the next question. Sometimes, I asked a random question just to maintain the interview. I felt like I was in a marathon that I was exhausted at the last run. I have been uncomfortable when recalling the interview. I keep reminding myself that I did not know how to maintain a real inductive interview.
The Mission Valley Planning Group meeting was held on October 5th, 2016 at the Mission Valley Branch Library, lasting approximately one hour and six minutes, beginning at 12pm and concluding at 1:06pm. Besides the members of the Mission Valley Planning Group, planners on the city staff, as well as a local law enforcement official, staff from local government officials, such as congresswoman Susan Davis, and few community members and residents were in attendance. The members of the planning group each had different roles (chair, treasurer, etc.), and different members served as leaders on different sub-committees, such as “parks” and “public health, safety, and welfare”. An overwhelming majority of individuals were white, with very few people
I had the opportunity to interview Jennifer Ashby. She has been the director of the Asotin County Library since February of 2001. She oversees just about everything that goes on in the library. She is in charge of budgets, facilities, personnel, collections, technology, programs, services, and public relations. She gave me a lot of great information on the history and current events of the library.
As I sat down with Jordan Fisher, on April 30th, we looked out the window to a gloomy, rainy day. It was wet and nasty day, but Jordan agreed to sit down with me to discuss his position as an HR officer. Jordan started with the Federal Government, 30 years ago at the age of 20. Now 50 Jordan is looking forward to retiring with his wife, stating “I enjoy it here, I really do—but I can’t wait to retire.” While Jordan plans to work for one more year before retiring, the knowledge and experience that he has gained from the position will never leave him. Jordan has been a very successful H.R. official because he has integrity, used effective communication and proper documentation.
For that, I interviewed my boss, Karen. I see her almost every work day but there were still many things I wanted to ask her about. I knew that she had been married to a man before she met her wife, and that she still had his last name even after separating and remarrying. I also knew that her father was a Methodist minister and performed her marriage ceremony back when he could’ve gotten in a lot of hot water for doing so. I knew that she was adopted, too. But the rest of her life, the in-between moments, were still a mystery to me. So, I really enjoyed that interview. As you can tell from the transcription, we laughed a lot and got along well. I think she felt comfortable and she told me later that she had enjoyed talking with me. I also came more prepared and with more questions. It was hard to do my initial research on my student interviewee because there wasn’t a lot of prior information that I could find about her. With Karen, I not only had my own prior information, but she is also easily found on the internet. A lot of that has to do with her age and the businesses she has been involved
“Why do you want to volunteer at the Daly City Public Library?” asked the authoritative figure sitting in front of me, earnestly awaiting for my answer. Because I had calculated the answer to this question for days before my interview, my response came out naturally and went something along the lines of:
The interview was conducted March 23, 2016, late afternoon I contacted Mr. Malone via cell phone. I then stated my name and introduced the topic of the interview. Afterwards I informed Mr. Malone about the types of questions I was going to ask him and told him to speak freely and not to answer anything that makes him uncomfortable. All of the questions I asked were good but there was a few that
I was excited to participate in this interview based on the fact, I have only worked at one daycare center, which they do not prepare food for the students. At the dance where I gathered my information, I learned that because the was opened for county workers and young mothers and placed at the local Technology High School and Collage the students in the Culinary Arts program are in charged of meal planning, prep and cooking then brought over where the teachers serve the food. The students are in charge preparing breakfast and lunch and the daycare provides two snacks, of either goldfish, pretzels, and what seemed to me mostly carbohydrate snacks. The snacks are mostly from donations by the parents of the children at the daycare. In the future,
Interviews can be conducted in several different ways. There are positive and negative things an interviewer can do during the interview verbally, as well as non-verbally. In the video “An Overview of Investigative Interviewing” an older lady is interviewed as a victim, pertaining to a crime where she was thrown to the ground and robbed of her purse. This paper will reflect on the verbal and non-verbal usage the interviewer used, the specific interview technique style used, and an evaluation based on the seven steps he took during the interview process.
To gather the data, we all decided to go together to the house of prayer and conduct the interview. We looked at the schedule to check when the place would be open and went on a Wednesday. However, when we got there we noticed that there was a sign on the door that said they would be back at 7 PM. We were there around 3 PM, so instead of waiting, we decided to come back another day but made sure to call ahead of time so we would know
You have never spoken about any measure of responsibility people might feel toward the greater community in which we live. You have never spoken about what the School District might need. The feeling I have is that you are fostering a simple message of “not in my backyard.” I, for one, don't want to send that message or behave as both a privileged and entitled person.
When we were first given this assignment I had not put much consideration into it. I thought we were to ask a couple of questions, it would all work itself out and I would be done. But this was not the case. The thought and reflection put into interview questions really surprised me. There was far more factors other than the questions you were asking, because you were also dealing with people, people who are giving you there free time, their attention and opening themselves up to you a stranger, so there were far more responsibilities then what were initially at hand.
Frustrated, I realize I wasn’t going to get the interview I wanted. So, I started asking my friends who created their own company. I talked to other friends who were in marketing firms, analysts, and all of them was stressing out with this quarter. At some point, I had a few people that were willing to Skype, but every time it came time for our interview, they had to reschedule. I gave up on those people and kept searching. Finally, I found someone to interview through one of my old contacts from an internship, I previously had. Her name was Kelly and she was initially the type of person I wanted to interview. Kelly, an African-American, founded and owned her own company called, Impact Media Coalition. I was happy and it was time to set up and prepare for the
I prepared a questionnaire and included all the relevant questions as stated in the assignment. I was fortunate to get a prompt reply with a narrative description. A phone interview was scheduled on September 23rd to fill in the gaps of the questionnaire which help me in articulating the details for the questionnaire. Since I already had a questionnaire completed by the manager, I was able to formulate more questions based on the questionnaire. This made my note-taking using MS OneNote easy and aided me in preparing the content for this
