Outlining My Profession The first few weeks in this course I have learned quite a bit about the profession that I am choosing to enter. I am choosing to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration. I do believe that the outlook for this profession is bright based on the research that I have done. I also believe that Kaplan University will help me to further my goal and learn how to get a job within my career field once I have obtained my Bachelor’s. Enterprising people like to take charge of projects and carry projects out to the end (O-net.com, n.d.). They like to make decisions, they like to lead and to take risks (hopefully for the profit of the organization) (O-net.com, n.d.). I believe that as a healthcare administrator it will be important to take risks, to understand how to lead people and to take charge of profits. SMART is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound. Goals that are smart will help me to achieve my attainable goals so that I can work towards larger goals in the future. Some goals that I would like to achieve with my career would be to first be able to enter the career field in an entry level job after I have achieved my Bachelor’s. Obtaining an entry level career does not seem to be a high goal, but it is a goal to help me to build my resume in anticipation for reaching for higher level management later on in life. I would like to continue to build my resume, and eventually (and hopefully within the near future) join the American College of Healthcare Executives. It takes about four years to complete the courses and is equal to 180 credits for the classes at Kaplan University. If I decide to manage a nursing home facility, I will need to pass the licensing exam for nursing home administration after I have received my degree in health care administration. Some courses that are taken include Healthcare Policy and Economics, Finance for Health Care, and Medical Office Management. These tasks take place in hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, public health agencies, or similar organizations. This occupation works more with documents, with little patient interaction. You do not commonly become certified to draw blood, and one does not require an internship for this career. This occupation does require a background check. Many careers require specific types of certification. Healthcare Administration requires an LNHA (Licensed Nursing Home Administrator). Reflection Two I have enjoyed all the speakers throughout this class. Each speaker presents me a new aspect to consider when making decisions regarding my career in the health care system. Information from the speakers along with information from the book is helpful tools to use when looking at all of the opportunities in the health care system. Knowledge provided in the book helps me understand the job outlook, salary, and education required to perform the job.
Selecting a career is the most important decision in a person’s life. The Health care industry has a good future in the United States of America. According to the American Department of Labor, the Medical assistant is one of the fastest growing health care professions. I have always been inclined towards health care and therefore I decided to be a medical assistant. To become a medical assistant one should possess different qualities. But the most important quality is to be a very responsible person.
At the end of volunteer services I have decided on a major, I am now striving to become a physician’s assistant. In this position, not only do I get to care for patients, but I am presented with the opportunity to change their lives. I will be able to see firsthand the diversity of cultures from around the world.

When I set my SMART goal in order to increase my physical activity, the goal was to feel better about myself and to have a clearer mind so that I could do well with my studies this resulted in increasing my physical health and wellness. There were a few challenges of having to force myself to get out of bed even though I was feeling really anxious. I think when making a SMART goal and changing that particular behaviour there will be changes that need to be faced and overcome. These might include psychological, family and work commitments, health challenges and many other duties. Motivation and time management therefore need to be considered when making a SMART goal to make this possible and therefore can succeed in their new behaviour change.
The one thing that interests me about wanting to become a health administrator is the jobs duties! Being a health administrator controlling finances, supply ordering, personnel oversight and training as well as many other numerous tasks that need to be completed for successful operations. Being over so many responsibility will not only prove that I can do it, but that I can also see the results!
