My passion in life is computers and technology. My goal in life is to create something that would greatly contribute or impact our society. I realized that utilizing my passion for computers would enable to help me achieve that goal. My passion for technology began when I was about 5 years old. Technologies in my country, the Philippines, are a little bit outdated compared to other countries. I rarely see any high tech computers or any other advanced technologies in my country. Schools, hospitals, and other establishments rarely had computers when I was growing up; they usually relied on thousands of papers, folders, and plenty of file cabinets when storing records and other files. The school had a really bad reputation and some might consider it one of the worst high schools in Arkansas. For that reason, I thought that it would be good to use my skills to try to improve the school’s reputation. It all started when I received an opportunity to become a team leader for a robotics team that had been recently created. Our goal that year was to compete in Vex Robotics Competitions across the state of Arkansas and hopefully manage to get in the State Championship. We weren’t expecting to achieve much during that year since we were just new and the other schools had years of experience. I knew it was going to be difficult for us to win something so I put a lot of effort and dedication in working on our robots. I usually came an hour early to school just to work on the robots. I even missed a lot of my lunch breaks just to work on them. Because I was passionate about working with those robots, it didn’t feel like a sacrifice to spend so many hours working on them . I also dedicated that hard work for my school. I thought that it would mean a lot for our academically distressed school if we were able to achieve something we never had before. During our first ever participation in the University of Arkansas at Monticello VEX Regional Event, our team was split into two teams since we manage to build two robots that time. But unexpectedly, both of our teams were able to achieve 1st and 2nd place out of 30 teams! Additionally, we also won the Sportsmanship award. At first, I couldn’t believe that we had been able to do something like that, but I realized that our dedication and hard work had paid off. Our team was later recognized and received an honor from the Little Rock School District’s Superintendent.
