The Cold war began in 1977 between the United States, the Soviet Union and Chinese Communist that occupied the attention of two generations of America from 1945 to 1991. Many citizens in these nations faced the nightmare of nuclear holocaust caused by small missteps and adversaries. During this time frame, Ronald Regan, a militant anti- communist crusader with his pragmatic and steady secretary of state, George Shultz guided the United States through a policy of heightened military preparedness and peace for the Soviet Union.
