The Code of Hammurabi was written around 1750 BC by Hammurabi. Aforementioned code was written obviously to enforce order, illustrate penalties but ultimately keep the peace in all of the land he believes to be the world, as stated in the introduction "so that I should... enlighten the land" and the epilogue "let righteousness go forth in the land".

Hammurabi specifically writes that he was chosen to lead by the god Anu, who was the ultimate leader of all Gods. He states “then Anu and Bel called by name me, Hammurabi, the exalted prince, who feared God, to bring about the rule of righteousness in the land, to destroy the wicked and evil doers; so that the strong shall not harm the weak; so that I should rule over the black-headed people like Shamash, and enlighten the land, to further the well-being of mankind.” Throughout the beginning and closing paragraphs, Hammurabi writes multiple times how carefully he has chosen his words. He finishes with his overall and ultimate triumph, conquering all four quarters of the world. Within the paragraphs following the laws, Hammurabi has very clearly elucidated commands, revealing the kinds of horrors the kingdom will see if future leaders fail to follow the rules as they are written. When examining all of these parts and pieces, Hammurabi has laid out a rather lengthy resume to prove his worthiness as well as surreptitiously naming particular Gods who have blessed him with this knowledge to further prove his competence; it seems that he attempted and succeeded in creating a god-fearing atmosphere to assist in enforcing these
