Throughout the years classrooms have become a more advanced educational playground made for students to succeed. It is a major part of a child’s life from the age of 5 to around 18. Students get up every morning, homework completed, and rush to homeroom to catch the bell. But has one ever wondered if life for students was always like this? Will schools always exist? Because of technology these answers are already in our hands. Technology plays a vital part in the school classroom’s layout today.
Schools have not always been up to speed as they are today. Most students lived a simple rural life and didn’t have the money to provide all the advancement used in this day of age. Schools basic outlook was to educate children enough to teach them to succeed on their farm at home. This made the school days shorter and the work day longer. Many children did not go to school which caused many one- roomed school houses to shoot up across the country. These classrooms contained slate, chalk, and a few books giving the teacher mostly the ability to teach through oral lessons. For the desks parents chimed in and built them with extra wood from the farm while other parents provided wood for the wood burning stove to keep the heat inside the classroom. Most classrooms had an open stable to provide a place for children’s horses for transportation. When it came to teachers in the classrooms life was a lot different. Many teachers were younger than their students and didn't require a degree for teaching. Many teachers lived in their students’ farm homes rotating from family to family. It started as one room school houses with homemade desks and wood burning stoves and now has become an advanced system of electronics and fewer textbooks each year. In the future there will be no such thing as pencils, paper, and textbooks to hold in one’s hand because of the effect technology beholds upon the classroom setting. Classrooms will no longer be one room with a teacher but several hundred across the world. There is no other way to explain the result of classroom’s generations without pinpointing the amazing technology.

Through this time period in education the main focus of the era was to build an educational system that was right for the students. Society would like to know what the teachers are doing to get them to stay in the classrooms and how they are keeping them active in their assignments. At the being of class the teacher will start out with a joke or ask the class how their week or weekend went just to get the class going other ways are they are starting to cut the assignments in half and making them easier for them to do, when it comes to testing they go over everything in class and the teacher will give the answers to the class and ask them if they understand; teachers are not sending as much homework home at the end of class, with teachers slacking off their job students are finding it very hard to find a good teachers that teaches in the classroom, why are they letting the students run the room when they are in charge of the room and the assignments that they hand out? In earlier times, the acquisition and spreading of knowledge was not used to improve society. Instead it was used to have control and to exclude certain groups. As one could imagine, there needed to be a change in the way that the education system was set up. In her essay, “Project Classroom Makeover”, Cathy Davidson discusses how the “one size fits all” model of learning hinders students from learning in a new and modernized way. She suggests the notion that using technology to teach and learn can be effective in many ways. Davidson shows that using technology presents the opportunity for a traditional classroom to become more inclusive and creative. The “democratization of knowledge” is the improvement and modernization of how information is taught and learned. Having a modernized and advanced learning system is a vital point for students because they gain insight and experience with what is considered a society dominated by advanced technology. The discipline, commitment, and responsibility standards that are required for an exceptional learning experience in school systems today are very consistent with those necessary fifty years ago. For example, the tools an educator were provided then were utilized to the best of his or her ability, which can easily be comparable with the circumstances of today’s uprising culture of computers.
Teaching is one of the most well-known professions all around the world. However, it is also extremely underestimated, especially when it comes to teaching elementary school students. Jenny Peters, writer of the article Confessions of An Elementary School Teacher, observes that it is indeed a “challenging career” that in the end has “immeasurable rewards” (1). However, no matter what you have to do, it seems as though those rewards overrule anything and everything as long as your heart is in it, not only for the students, but for the drive to teach them and lead them to bigger and brighter futures.
The task of correcting the many problems that faced education in the early 1800’s required the genius of many men to correct. Perhaps the largest problem facing early American schools was the lack of training undergone by the teachers of the time. Teachers were often untrained and unprepared, acting more as babysitters and less as instructors. Schoolhouses also posed a problem; many were small and overcrowded, with no desks and little to no teaching materials (www.nd.edu). One very large problem noticed particularly by Noah Webster was the fact that all the textbooks originated from England. America was still feeling a need for separation from England at this time, and teaching the American youth with English materials was not helping in the strive for true independence (www.ctstateu.com). These problems with the educational system proved to be difficult to correct, and some of them are still faced by boards of education even today.

Years ago, many children did not go to school and many young adults opted to work instead of attending college. There is a growing amount of changes in the classroom such as technology, teaching time, teaching styles, and freedom of space.
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).

The education world has been greatly influenced by rapidly changing technology and the increasing availability of information. Schools have advanced by leaps and bounds when it comes to incorporating technology into the learning environment, however, many more advances need to be made. In all areas of the country, educators are trying to help students keep up with technology, but there are more changes that are essential for preparing the next generation for the future.
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
students prefer technology because they believe that it makes learning more interesting and fun. They especially like laptops and tablets. Subjects that students deem challenging or boring can become more interesting with virtual lessons, through a video, or when using a tablet. Technology occupies an important place within students’ lives. When they are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected in some way to technology. By integrating technology into the classroom, teachers are changing the way they used to teach (lectures six hours a day) and providing students with the tools that will take them into the 21st century. One of the characteristics of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. With classroom technology students can collaborate with other students and their teachers in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.
