1. Why did you choose to become a teacher? I really enjoyed working with kids and found at an early age that there was a desire in my heart to really work with, and help children. I feel like God placed the desire in my heart to help others. I had debated between teaching and nursing but chose the teaching profession which I’m thankful for. 2. What are some things that you do to create a positive classroom climate? I love having a positive classroom environment because it makes the classroom operate more efficiently. An aspect of my classroom is the focus of the kids’ behavior and what I desire of them. It ultimately comes down to loving and respecting the children and making them feel safe. How do you accommodate students who have different learning styles? I just find out what the individual students’ needs are and then I base my lesson plans around that. I really try to tailor each lesson and get the student to work on it until it’s at par. If it’s something beyond my ability to deal with in the classroom then I would call on outside resources, either from the school or outside resources. 4. What is your most common form of communication with parents? First and foremost is face to face communication. I really feel like that personal face to face interaction with parents, especially in the beginning is so crucial; just being able to develop that rapport and relationship with the parent. I walk right over to them and get down on their level and I will say “can you tell me or explain to me what you are doing right now” and then I let them answer the question. The main reason I would like to become a teacher is the love for little kids. I really enjoy being around children. After teaching Sunday School to children up to 8 years of age for over five years, I feel that I can relate to them and connect with them very well. I also feel that students look up to teachers, so they are a very big influence on the children's’ lives. I would love to know that I could make such a big influence on a child’s life. In my opinion teachers have an impact on the life of every student they ever have in class.
As a teacher it is your responsibility to vary your instruction so that you can reach each different type of learner. Something that may be useful is giving students an assessment that makes the teacher aware of how each student learns, and base your instruction off of the results. Also, you can give them an assessment of Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences to get an even better understanding of their learning styles, their strengths, and their weaknesses. To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.
There are several ways in which a teacher can accommodate every learning style by doing simple things in the classroom. Examples of this would be a certain seating arrangement or even just changing all the time to reach each students style. Knowing and learning styles might be one of the most important things to learn from your students at the beginning of each school year. There are several tests out there that can help with this, but know each style is also important. Knowing your own learning intelligence as a teacher will also help you and is important. This allows you to know in which way you will best be able to absorb information that is important in our teaching. Multiple intelligences are a vital part of any teacher’s lesson plans and are especially necessary in the ever-changing diversities of the schools. Learning styles will bring out the strengths and weaknesses.
I have not always wanted to be a teacher. I always knew that I wanted to work with children in some way, but I was pretty sure that teaching was not for me. I was well on my way in my junior year of college working toward a biology degree so that I could become a pediatric physician’s assistant. I still cannot explain what happened, but one week I was a biology major, and the next I knew that I have always been meant to teach children. I suppose I just took the longer route to get there than most people do. The two main reasons that I have chosen to become a teacher is that I believe that teaching is extremely personally rewarding in many ways and the fact that I can actively make a difference in someone’s life.
Teaching is a daunting task that I do not intend to take lightly. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine for several years.
