1. Why did you choose to become a teacher? I really enjoyed working with kids and found at an early age that there was a desire in my heart to really work with, and help children. I feel like God placed the desire in my heart to help others. I had debated between teaching and nursing but chose the teaching profession which I’m thankful for. 2. What are some things that you do to create a positive classroom climate? I love having a positive classroom environment because it makes the classroom operate more efficiently. An aspect of my classroom is the focus of the kids’ behavior and what I desire of them. It ultimately comes down to loving and respecting the children and making them feel safe. How do you accommodate students who have different learning styles? I just find out what the individual students’ needs are and then I base my lesson plans around that. I really try to tailor each lesson and get the student to work on it until it’s at par. If it’s something beyond my ability to deal with in the classroom then I would call on outside resources, either from the school or outside resources. 4. What is your most common form of communication with parents? First and foremost is face to face communication. I really feel like that personal face to face interaction with parents, especially in the beginning is so crucial; just being able to develop that rapport and relationship with the parent. Then after that is established I use other methods including notes home, phone calls or emails. 5. How do you intervene when your students misbehave? I walk right over to them and get down on their level and I will say “can you tell me or explain to me what you are doing right now” and then I let them answer the question.
