With civil rights, social, and political movements during my my parents’ generation, and even my own, the changes that had occurred over the years in respect to gender disparity was quite apparent. Specifically, the position that the society held for men and women have been vastly different during my parents’ generation compared to those that are held today. While many aspect of the gender inequality can be discussed, the focus will revolve around the gender roles of men and women of my parents and current time.
During my parents generation, around the 1950s, the society held a patriarchal view that had been held since the neanderthals congregated in a society. The neanderthals divided the roles within the society where women played a supporting roles such as gathering berries, cooking, and tending the children while men had a role in hunting. Similarly, women during my parents’ generation were expected to stay home, take care of the children, and support and educate the …show more content…

More women are present in workforce compared to before. There may be several reasons for this shift in the demographics of women in workforce, but one could be attributed to the rising demand to support the family financially. There are also several statutes in place that protect women and encourage women to go to into workforce, such as maternity leave, as well to branch out to professions that were dominated by males in the past, such as careers in science, business, and politics. Finally, compared to the past it is evident that many women are in power and are critical in making decision for a business, such as Pepsi Co. CEO Indra Nooyi, frontiers of science like nobel laureate Ada Yonath, and even a leader for a country, such as Hillary Clinton.
