Speed limits are necessary for many reasons, for example, safety precautions in town and out of town. Highway speed limits are necessary in order to maintain a reasonable speed and take action when wildlife suddenly appear, or when construction is taking place. In town speed limits are necessary for things such asorder and safety of pedestrians. Speed limits are a way of ensuring a safe environment for people inside and outside of a moving vehicle. The necessity of speed limits has and always will be needed. In town, speed limits are necessary for many reasons. A major reason is that a city is full of life, which means a large amount of people, animals and situations that call for the need to stop abruptly. Without speed limits, pedestrians would not have the opportunity to cross streets safely because vehicles would be traveling too fast to stop for pedestrians when they should. Vehicles also need to be able to stop in a matter of seconds for a few reasons. In cities, children or animals can race out onto the street and a sudden stop can be necessary …show more content…

For example, big animals such as moose and deer venture out onto the highway whenever they wish. If vehicles were allowed to travel at speeds without limitation, such speeds would not allow the driver enough time to react appropriately in a situation where something like a moose wanders out onto the highway. Construction is also a good reason for having speed limits. In and out of cities construction takes place, and with construction comes the presence of people. Speed limits around construction areas are helping to keep the workers safe. The speed limits around construction areas allow drivers time to react if something in the surrounding environment goes wrong and they need to brake immediately.
