There were a few things that I liked about Ashley Poston's Geekella. Firstly, it does a great job of retelling the classic Cinderella in a way that serves as a love letter to fandom in general. Secondly, I adored the character Sage, Elle's co-worker who basically plays the role of the "fairy godmother" in this retelling. And finally the text conversations between Darien and Elle truly were adorable.
All that being said, I didn't enjoy Geekella as much as I thought. Perhaps it was that it the book wasn't as light hearted or fun as I thought it would be or maybe it's for the reason that the pacing felt uneven especially near the end. Still by the novel's end I did end up caring for Elle as a character and while I can't say the same about Darien
Luna is the main character. She is smart, thoughtful, and a little shy. She is also very curious. Luna has an opinion about everybody, and she likes intellectual and creative people. She likes talking about her ideas and theories. Luna loves photography, and she has just gotten a camera. I think Luna is very brave because even though it is probably scary to try to find out all of the secrets that her mother had, she is still doing it. That takes courage. Luna is a strong person - she might seem hard to get to know, but once you do, she is a very good person.

The treatment of females from the 18th century through the 21st century have only gotten worse due to society’s ignorant judgment of the gender. Of which, is the change from the previous housewife like actions to the modern day body figure. This repulsive transaction is perceived throughout literature. From the 19th century’s short story, “The Story of an Hour” written by Kate Chopin in 1894 and the 20th century’s poem, “Barbie Doll” composed by Marge Piercy in 1971.
Attention Getter. Fairy tales portray the idea that anything is possible for someone no matter the person or their social class. The fairy tale of Cinderella tells a story of a woman who has nothing in life, but, with help, finds a prince with whom she lives “happily ever after.” The fairy tale, however, fails to acknowledge that there is any love between the prince and Cinderella, a key aspect of a relationship. The movie Pretty Woman, directed by Garry Marshall, illustrates the Cinderella idea that a man knows what he wants in a woman, but also that he must be in love. In the movie, the main character Edward Lewis realizes that Vivian is a woman who fits his lifestyle and that he could be with, but in addition falls in love with Vivian and the woman that she is. This suggests that Garry Marshall was making the claim that, in addition to chemistry and compatibility, love must be a present factor in a meaningful relationship.
The likely hood that a “poor black kid” will survive plight conditions is beyond the means of their hard work. That is why DNLee’s, “If I Were a Wealthy White Suburbanite”, response to “If I Were a Poor Black Kid” by Gene Marks is strongly accurate. DNLee uses Cinderella as an analogy to further bolster her point. Just as Cinderella’s heinous stepmother and stepsisters make it nearly impossible to attend the ball, disparity makes it nearly impossible for a poor black kid to achieve a prosperous life. “Working hard is important; but let’s not be naïve.”(DNLee 265) It does not matter how much of a hard worker a person is because there are more challenging factors that lead to obtaining a successful life.
The Grimm’s stories have strict criteria for good and evil. Good women are not the hero, they do not plan, nor do they get themselves out of bad situations; they are obtuse and wait until a Prince saves them. These qualities doom the female protagonists (and readers) to pursue the only destiny women have, and that is to be a wife and mother (Rowe, 1978). Cinderella is the heroine and the ideal good girl. She is unambiguously beautiful, kind, and compassionate. She does not complain or get angry. This is foreseen early in the Grimm’s Cinderella story:

Fans of the novel like the way you get to see inside Grace and Marty 's personalities, and the way that these two kids are just like any other, if not a little more unusual. You will find yourself glued to the pages until you have finished reading the novel. The adventures will make it so that you only breath about every once in a while and you will like the characters you are reading about, even if you are an adult. The novel is vivid in description and it is almost as though you are able to make a movie of things in your head. Most children experience agony and hope as they face the struggles of sibling rivalry throughout their childhood. This situation has been experienced by children, of whom may or may not have siblings, for hundreds of years. Several stories represent this crisis, including the Biblical story of Abel and Cain which was written over 3000 years ago. Abel of whom was forced to be Cain’s ash-brother. Cain had developed an intense feeling of jealousy of Abel when his offering to the Lord was rejected while Abel’s was accepted. This caused him great agony, but he wasn’t the only one. Anthropology, being the study of cultures, relates to Cinderella regarding how the characters were brought up through their cultural background. The perspective of sociology – people within groups and social structures – explains how and why the different conflicts arise within the story. Psychology studies mental processes and behaviour, analysing Freudian decisions of Cinderella and what might have been her mental state in the fairy tale.

The 1950’s Cinderella created by world-renown Disney director, Clyde Geronimi, has been established as the most renown and generic story out of all. In comparison to Charles Perrault’s “Cinderella”, the standard storyline, both have the same concepts. Similarities such as the abuse, the magic, and the happily ever after is present in both exactly. Although, there are also horrifying aspects to discuss about Cinderella and their other versions. Certain acts such as the abuse and mutilation are considered to be unjust and not right, no matter the situation; but perhaps Cinderella was not as virtuous and kind as portrayed in the 1950’s film.
Some fairy tales are so iconic that they withstand the passing of time. One of those fairy tales is that of Cinderella. The rags to riches story that gives even the lowliest of paupers, hope that they may one day climb the social ladder. While the core message of the story has transcended time, over the years it has been adapted to address a variety of audiences. One of those renditions is Perrault’s Cinderella where the traditional idea of gender is conveyed and therefore associated with good/evil. This idea is challenged by a fellow 1600’s French author, L’heriter de Villandon’s, who’s version of Cinderella brings about a female protagonist who is also the heroine.
Mama has dreams for her family to rise from poverty and live in a better and bigger place and also for them to continue to grow together as a family. Mama has a plant that she also cares for. She takes care of this plant as if it was one of her own children. Mama's children also have their own dreams and their own plans on how to attain those dreams. The family's competing dreams are emphasized by Hansberry's recurring use of the motif--Mama's plant.
