Christian Theism: C. S. Lewis

Christian theism is accepting as truth that God is the one and only creator of the universe.. Per C.S. Lewis, there is a God who is wholly good and righteous, who hates hatred and loves love and has distinct views on how we should act or not act. (Lewis, 2001). This view is a shining example of theism- which can be defined simply as the belief in one God who is an absolute, eternal, omniscient, omnipotent and perfect being who is related to the world as its cause, but is unaffected by the world- we can’t change Him- only He can change us, as well as being transcendent over it.
Theism is founded on three basic beliefs, the first of which is that the world was created out of nothing by God – ex nihilo- as is expressed in the Nicene Creed “We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen” ("Anglicans Online | The Nicene Creed", 2007) and backed up by scripture, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep” (Genesis 1:1-2, Proverbs 3:19 KJV). We are told by the prophet Jeremiah about this characteristic of God, “Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD (Jeremiah 23:23-24, KJV). Lewis says that God is outside of time- Every moment, in all of time, is the present for God.
