The child I will be observing is Jaelee and she is 4.7 years old. Jaelee is in preschool one and she is currently attending the Child Family Development center and her teacher is Ms. Reta. Jaelee’s parents are divorced she lives with her mother and older sister Kennedy. Her father helps out whenever he can by picking her up from preschool. Jaelee’s father had said they have taken her to the doctors recently and is pretty sure that she has Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (A.D.H.D). Jealee’s teacher says that she is very artistic. Jaelee is a very energetic child and I’m looking forward to spending time with her and observing
She is easily distracted. She has low muscle tone and lacks stability in her legs. R has many toys and books. She prefers soft dolls and books. Her favorite doll is Bibsy. She participates in toddler class at the public library and park district. Her grandmother also takes her to walk daily as there are playgrounds near the home.
A copy of the Ages & Stages is given to the parent with their child’s result ASQ. If there is an area or areas that need to be strengthened, we created an Individual Learning Plan to help the child reach his potential. When a weakness is observed in an area, we work with the child on those specific goals. We will observe and document the child’s progress. Parents are asked to provide a 1” binder and clear sheet protectors in order to build a portfolio of the child’s progressive work and parents are welcome to review their child’s portfolio at any time. Usually, when the children are fourteen months, they are sent to the next classroom. If they are not ready in some area or areas, there might be some delays in advancing them to the next classroom. In the meantime, we work with the child to overcome the weakness is having. The facility I did my observation at was Tutor Time in Fairfield, and I arrived there at 3:15pm. When I arrived there, I could instantly see that it was a child centered program by the feel of the artwork the kids had made that were on the walls, the passing classrooms and it smelled like sugar cookies throughout the building. It was very quiet in the office area and in the halls when I was walking to the class of preschoolers.
The observation took place indoor at my relative 's house. I went to observe the child on Tuesday at 12:00 in the morning. When you first enter the house and walk through the hallway, you will see that the kitchen is on the right side and the dining table on the left. After passing the kitchen and dining table, you will see that the living room connects to the back-yard. The living room 's walls had multiple picture frames and decoration pieces hanging along with a brown color clock. This Semester I observed a three-year-old girl named Allie. Allie attends preschool at Land of Learning; she is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. It was my pleasure observing her and getting to know her. She is a very sweet outgoing girl that doesn’t let her disability get to her. I observed and assisted Allie throughout her days at preschool. I assisted her and observed her with recess activities, eating lunch, and daily school projects. My past observation experiences I observed at Westgate elementary school in a class room mixed with students with learning disabilities, ADHD and also ELL students the class was taught by Ms. Lewis. The Child Development Center of College of San Mateo provides early care and educational programs for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. Children are divided into classrooms with a “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two or three “associate” teachers. Klara attended Classroom, “A,” a stimulating and well-resourced classroom. Klara was observed for two hours on Monday from 9 am to 11 am and for two hours on Wednesday from 9 am to 11 am. During these two hours, classroom activities consisted of “free time,” “story time,” and an outside “play time.” A “master” teacher, a “regular” teacher, and two “associate” teachers were present during observations. Additionally, a total of eighteen children were in attendance during the observed days.
This paper will explore my findings of my observation of a young boy, age 28 months, named Jax. Jax is fun little man and happens to be my nephew. I will discuss the attributes and characteristics of Jax that I witnessed in the few hours that I had observed him. Starting with motor development skills, I observed that Jax is a very favorable walker. He is well coordinated, and loves to run. Still, just like any two-year-old, he still stumbles frequently. He loves to play with his toys and can pick up and grasp his toys well. He is great at maneuvering his toys and putting them where he wants them. I did notice that he did favor his right hand regularly. Jax did love to throw things, and catch them as well. However, he seemed to be a bit better at catching things, more so than he was at throwing
Children are brought the child care development center to provide daycare for the working parent. Upon arrival, an assessment is performed on the children. Their hair is checked for the presence of lice. Their eyes, ears, nose, and mouths are checked for redness or discharge. The presence of a cough should also be noted. General appearance is assessed for cleanliness. Their shoes should be closed toes to protect their feet from injury. The children can be dismissed from the center for lice or presence of infection to prevent the spread to others. If lice are present, the child should obtain treatment and return to school the day after treatment was received (Bohl, Evetts, McClain, Rosenauer, & Stellitano, 2015, p. 231). Student Observation #2 Age: 6 Race: Caucasian Gender: Male Grade: Kindergarten Location: Observation took place in the student’s home after school. Conversation with mother: Single mom, left child’s father just after she turned 1. Child’s father still sees his son, but has had some problems with drugs so visits are limited and with the supervision of his paternal grandmother. Mother works 50 hours a week to support her small family.
The child I observed was born on February 21st, so the baby that I observed is just weeks old. The baby is white and a male. The baby is a friend’s child and I observed him in the living room of their home and in his personal bedroom while he was in his crib. There was two couches in the living room, a television, two end tables, and a big sectional rug which was where the child was most of the time. There was 4 adults. The mom, the dad, my mom, and I. There were no other children in the house at this time.
The school also offered developmental assessments that Seth and I take advantage of. The teacher found that Jeffrey was doing well with the peer group. He had even made several little friends. He also showed age-appropriate understanding of phonological awareness and the teacher recommends we continue reading and writing activities to help him prepare for literacy activities in kindergarten. He had no difficulty in adapting to “practice” kindergarten activities and was generally cooperative, avoided getting distracted, and stayed on task. He performed in the average range on tests of vocabulary and the ability to retell a story. He showed advanced ability to count, use numbers, understand quantitative relationships and classify objects. Jeffrey was fairly interested in the art projects that the teachers and students participated in and enjoyed the pre-math activities. Seth and I also completed another parenting questionnaire. The child that I selected to observe through the course of this semester is a Caucasian female. Her name is “R.” She was born on April 24, 2013. She is currently 10 months old, but will be turning one year old at the end of the semester. “R” is a child who is very active. She has an independent but outgoing personality.
