“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” Do americans always chase optimism in the face of a challenge? Some do while some don’t. Despite what many people may think, ‘chasing Optimism in the face of challenges’ is usually unquestionably difficult. It’s very well known across the many countries. Chasing optimism in the face of a challenge has an important meaning to many people. “Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, you are unlikely to step up and take responsibility for making it so.” Optimism is a person’s tendency to hope, expect and believe that things will turn out okay and to his/her advantage. They believe that good things can come out of bad things and or situations. They believe in working had to achieve their goal, even when they're in a challenge. For example, Helen Keller became deaf blind not long before her second birthday. Many people thought she would never be successful. Later in her life, she became optimistic. For many years she even thought she was gonna end up being a failure. Despite her disability, she worked even harder to read and write. Now she’s a famous writer. She’s wrote many successful books such as, “Out Of The Dark”, “Light In My Darkness”, “The Story Of My Life”, etc. She also became the first deaf blind person to gain a bachelor degree. She has even lead many successful campaigns. One of Helen Keller's famous quotes is “All the world is suffering. It is also full of overcoming.” This quote is important to the topic of optimism because when she was suffering, she knew she was going to overcome what she was going through, and that is very important in our …show more content…
Everyone should try and be optimistic because It helps many people get through their very tough situations. “ We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to cause them.” We need to always have faith that things will work out in our advantage. “You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain”, meaning that you’re life isn’t always gonna consist of you being happy all the time, there are days you’re gonna have to deal with problems. Just don’t let the problems bring you down because there’s a rainbow on the other
The world, through different means, will always try to degrade people’s existence, but it’s up to us to rise up and act. For Nietzsche, Beauvoir and Voltaire, people should act and take the responsibilities. According to Nietzsche, people give meaning to their life by growing spontaneously, seeking out to say ‘yes’ to life to saturate it with happiness and passion. For Beauvoir, people, especially women, give their life meaning by not condemning to immanence, instead affirming their independence and transcending themselves to justify their existence. As per Voltaire, excessive optimism fades one’s sense of responsibility, taking away his or her freedom to take productive action. For Voltaire, optimism is good only when it compels people to take action, and bad when it forces people into believing that failure is inevitable.
Optimism is a necessary quality for the average person. It allows one to strive for the best and persevere. But, can there be such thing as too much optimism? Can it blind individuals from the harsh truths of the world? The answer to both of these questions is yes; as is exemplified by the novel Don Quixote as well as numerous instances in history, Optimism overshadows the more realistic negative consequences of achieving a dream. Protagonist Alonso Quesada, self-dubbed knight-errant Don Quixote, embarks on a rather ill conceived journey in search of a quest. Upon seeing the windmills as giants, Quixote opportunistically takes advantage of the situation and attacks the harmless contraptions resulting in his inevitable defeat. However, the moment that shows the reader the optimistic
In life, it is important to be optimistic, and see the glass as half full. Being optimistic means to look at things in a positive way. And it is important to stay optimistic in life. Being an optimist can also be thought of as having lots of hope for the future. Sometimes it is hard to be optimistic when other things in your life are going wrong. But, you have to look past the negatives, and try to see the best in things and keep hope. Penelope and I are both similar because we both stay optimistic in life.
There’s optimism in all literature known to man if not optimism then it would be pessimism. They are the basis of any literature work. It’s found in many books and poems today. In the novel Fahrenheit451 by Ray Bradbury evaluates the theme of optimism. The author Ray Bradbury writes about a guy named Montag who is in a society where firemen burn houses instead of putting fires out. Montag seeks out the good in the books which are banned in this dystopian society where knowledge is forbidden to rise from society. He and other literature seekers pave the way for him to learn knowledge and the freedom of thinking which is against the law in this society. Montag falls in love with books so much that he tries to find someone who can teach him about the books and how important they are to life. The world would fall apart without knowledge no one would have a clue on what to do or how to eat since they don’t have that knowledge at hand. Optimism can also be found in the William Ernest Henley’s “Invictus”, Freedom to Breathe” by Alexander Solzheitsynand and in the speech “The Nobel acceptance by Elie Wiesel.
...too optimistic can result in sadness and despair. Optimism also has the power to blind us from seeing the harsh and cruel realities in life. Optimists focus exclusively on the bright side of life and tend to avoid all the cruel realities. However, when the time comes to face a harsh reality, optimists are unprepared and fail. Wiesel makes this argument to show us the negative effects of optimism. For example, the belief that drinking and driving or speeding is not going to end fatally. Optimists have the mindset of “death is something that happens to others.” Drinking and driving and speeding blind the driver from realizing there is a possibility of death. These optimistic people are the most likely to die due to the fact that they are not aware of this possibilities. Wiesel would agree that optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable.
Having a positive outlook can be very important when being involved in a conflict or trying to solve one. This is how Anne Frank and Louise Ogawa from First Read: Dear Miss Breed got through the roughest times of their lives. They kept a positive outlook on things and tried to make the best of the worst. Just looking on the bright side, even if it feels like there isn’t one can make a huge difference. As a great thinker, such as Joyce Meyer, once said, ‘’A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances, having power over you’’. If they did not maintain a positive outlook, then who knows how they would have survived. Having a positive outlook gives you the strength to keeping going
In Jack Kerouac’s novel On the Road, the narrator, Sal Paradise offers up to us what seems to be a very optimistic view on life. He is forever singing the praises of how wonderful his adventures will be and his high expectations for the future. To Sal, the novel is defined by youthful exuberance and unabashed optimism for the new experiences that he sets out to find. A deeper look into the novel, as well as a look at some of the critics who have written on it, reveals a much darker side, a more pessimistic and sad aspect that Sal simply fails to realize until the very close of the action. Whether Sal is hopped up on the optimism of jazz music, secure in his belief that he is off to find ‘IT,’ or just excited about the promises of a night out in a new city, he is consistently selling the reader on the positive nature of the situations. To be more honest though, On the Road is a novel in which Sal, and the people with whom he surrounds himself, find themselves steeped into a near constant cycle of enthusiastic optimism for the future, which is then followed by a disparaging pessimism for the situation’s reality. While Sal might note that he desires the freedom and happiness of the open road, Ann Douglas says that "this is the saddest book that I’ve ever read" (Douglas, 9). While Sal attempts to show a exuberant and triumphant story of youthful optimism, critics and the actual events of the novel alike seem to point towards the fact that this same optimism turns the novel into a pessimistic story showing the actualities of life.
Optimism was an attractive to many because it answered a profound philosophical question: if God is omnipotent and benevolent, then why is there so much evil in the world? Optimism provides an easy way out: God has made everything for the best, and even though one might experience personal misfortune, God (via your misfortune) is still helping the greater good.
Casey a close friend of mine is a superlative example of a person who always hopes for the best. Casey is not only 10 years old like me, but lives in the same state. He is also one of the most important role model to me for always looking on the bright side. I think that he is optimistic because he always makes you happy, he never gives up, and most of his optimism is in his writing.
Athletic.Talented.Intelligent. These are just a few words that describe me.They are what my everyday experiences and actions represent in my life. But there is one word that describes me a little bit more. Because of the experiences I have had in my life so far, it is clear to see that I am optimistic.
When considering the importance of hope and its value to society, it is important to mention that without hope humankind would be lost. Optimism and determination have made a lasting impact on history. Hope has affected the past by fostering the resilience and fortitude required to fight injustices such as racism. The ...
Findings consistently related higher hope to better outcomes in physical health, psychological adjustment, psychotherapy, athletics and academics. Individual combinations of pathways demonstrate different degrees of robustness between high and low-hope persons. Individuals with high degrees of hope are adept at exploring plausible alternate routes, whereas, low-hope individuals are less flexible and unlikely to produce alternate routes. The positive psychology model demonstrates benefits, from tracing the source of positive emotion, as theory applied in therapy suggests emotions are the key to locating underlying sources of feelings. Snyder suggested positive emotions usually flow from perceptions of successful goal pursuit and overcoming problems, finding consistent support for positive emotions occurring in both unimpeded and impeded circumstances. Future research is encouraged in regard to human strengths engendering hope and how people rebound from problem exposure. Snyder viewed Hope as critical for enhancing quality of life and predicting positive outcomes. If the premise of hope were applied, it would allow more people to experience the full range of goal pursuits in

Mental attitude refers to the complex mental state of a person which includes beliefs, emotions, values, and attitudes on which one’s acts certainly. Even before until now, self-help books and popular beliefs have already speculated the power of positive mental attitude in the lives of a person. Similarly, a number of theories on positive psychology may support this claim. On the basis of Seligman’s (1998) theory, pessimists tend to explain bad events that happened in their life as internal, stable, and global throughout their lives. Such people tend to develop learned helplessness and are prone to depression. Personal outlook in life, therefore, affects students’ performance. In school, study shows that pessimistic student performs less than their level of “talent” whereas optimistic student performs high (Seligman,
The optimist sees the rose and not its thrones; the pessimist stares at the thrones, oblivious to the rose. There are two types of people in the world—optimistic and pessimistic. Optimistic persons always look the positive side of the thing even in tragic consequences and live a cheerful life. On the other hand, pessimistic persons always look at the dark side of a thing even in happy conditions. The negative attitude of these persons makes their life tragic and full of tension.
