I sit on a park bench, holding a bundle of limp bills in my hands. It took an hour to beg, plead and cry for people to give me money that would be enough to clothe and feed me. I only have fifty-seven dollars, but I know that it will help with all that is ahead. As I am recounting them, a hand on my shoulder nearly makes me jump out of my skin. I freeze, and tuck the bills back into my sweatshirt pocket, getting my fists ready in case I need to knock someone’s lights out. A chuckle comes from the person above me.
“Kiera, I’m happy to see you so ready to beat me up, but can this happen later?” I hear Tanner say behind me. I relax, breathing deeply.
“Sorry. I thought you were, like, a hobo or someone like that.” I say, rubbing my hands together.
“I don’t normally look like a hobo, if that helps.” Tanner remarks, sitting next to me on the bench. “How much money did you pull up?”
“Just fifty-seven.” I say, slouching. “You?”
“A hundred and sixty-four.” He says, crossing his arms behind his head. “Told you it would work.” I roll my eyes.
“I am the leader, you know. You voted for me.” I reply, crossing my own arms in front of my chest.
“I know. You are the leader on purpose.” Tanner says, smiling at my apparent frustration. He is just about to say something else when someone walks right behind him and puts his hand on his shoulder. Tanner reacts just as I did a few minutes ago, and I laugh at him when I see it is the other three.
“Guess how much money we got!” Livi crows excitedly.
“How much?” I ask, standing and going to her.
“A hundred and twelve!” She says, jumping up and down.
“Wow, that’s awesome! How much do we have all together?”
“Um, hold on.” Emma says, tapping her chin with her finger. “We have...

...k. He blinks, and glances away from me for a second.
“You look….different.” He replies.
“Is it a good different?” I ask him, sitting down next to him.
“O-of course. Why wouldn’t it be?” He says. I shrug.
“Where are we heading after this?” I ask, wanting to get off this awkward topic.
“A grocery store. Like, a Target or something.”
“Sounds alright to me.” I reply. As soon as I say this, the two girls come out of their rooms, giggling. They are dressed in their new clothes, and I notice Connor looking at Emma intently. I smile to myself, and have the feeling that something is going on between the two that we, or they, don’t know about. As I feel the pressure of Tanner’s hip pressed against mine, I have the feeling that something between he and I is beginning to blossom, even though I have no idea what it is, or why it’s even there in the first place.
The fifty dollars I found in my dad’s wallet back then, made him seem o’ so powerful. I never doubted money’s holy strength, but now, all it is but weak, false numbers. The money needed simply to obtain the basic necessities, exceeded the realms of my feeble mind. It cast chains on my mentality, as I now hesitate to get the things I know I can afford. The money I thought would allow me to cruise through life is instead a weight on my back.
" Okay " I say trying to seem calm as I look at this weird fog like stuff around him. " Listen, now you are not going to die " he says and takes the armor and puts it back on the shelf. " Do you see it " he asks looking at me.
Now I wished that I could pen a letter to my school to be read at the opening assembly that would tell them how wrong we had all been. You should see Zachary Taylor, I’d say.” Lily is realizing now that beauty comes in all colors. She is also again being exposed to the fact that her way of being raised was wrong, that years and years of history was false. “The whole time we worked, I marveled at how mixed up people got when it came to love.
It was a sunny day with a sweet aroma of blooming tulips. The sunlight glittered on their faces as the breeze rattled the chestnut tree above. There was an occasional giggle as they talked, but there was also a hint of discomfort and awkwardness between them as they peeked at each other’s face and recoiled when the other looked up. When the bell rang twice, I saw them say goodbye and walk away from each other. In the darkness of the crowd, a glimmer flashed into my eyes from Hannah’s cheeks.

"It's okay, I'm Seth. I don't think I've seen you around here before." He had an easy smile on his face as he held out his hand for me to shake.
“Where are they going to take us?” my 7 year old brother Dominique asked nervously.
“Very well, but if your master would like to join me and my knights on our quest, the rewards would be much greater than a mere fifteen dollars.”
“Tell everyone the party is cancelled. We can meet up when I win the debate to discuss these things further. Until then make sure you invite them to the debates.” Douglas then turns and leaves. I then begin to walk home to organize some notes for the debates ahead.
Ophelia shook her head and waved her hands in front of her, letting out a laugh. “I am having absolutely no part in this.”
“What?” I mumbled back as I stretched out.”Oh, we’re here… I miss Ohio already.” I said in a grumpy voice back.
