For years, the topic of censorship has a been highly controversial issue. Over the centuries, many people have fought and died to gain the freedom of speech and ideas. The impression that creative ideas and important information should be hidden from society and controlled by the government, is a discordant one. Censorship is the act of controlling the freedom of speech, ideas, and information. The first argument or point people make is about the First Amendment: freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is the right to communicate opinions or ideas without the interference of the government. With the use of technology, people have no problem voicing their opinions. While they make a good point, it seems they fail to look passed the protection that the First Amendment provides. Censorship is needed to protect vunerable individuals from viewing information that could be potententially harmful to them. Certain individuals, such as children, are very suseptible to the influence of what they hear and what they see throughout their childhood. Mr. Lyons sees his results as evidence that humans are hard-wired to learn by imitation, even when that is clearly not the best way to learn.
