Temperaments are behavioral features that seem to be inborn and generally persist throughout life, it seems to be genetically determined (William & Shawn, 1995). In other to meet the needs of people, friends, colloquies, and our children we must be able to recognize temperamental traits in ourselves (William & Shawn 1995). This also helps parents to guide their children in ways that respect a child’s individual differences. By understanding temperament, we can work with others rather than trying to change them. It also helps to put a child’s behavior in perspective, and anticipate and understand the child’s reactions (William & Shawn, 1995). In respect to this case study, James is a 3 years old male and his mother is 32 years old, she is married and he is her only child presently Activity Level: Mother reports the child’s activity could be high and in some cases somewhat in between. Being highly active doesn’t necessary mean it’s a good thing or bad thing. Environmental factors can determine a child’s temperament which can ascertain if an active child can either fit in well or face some challenges. Often, children with high activity level excel in athletics. As adults they often do well in competitive careers and in jobs that require movement rather than those that involve sedentary activities.
