Aerospace engineering is a very difficult field to master. This field of engineering focuses on the “design, development, construction, testing, and operation of vehicles in the earth’s atmosphere or in space” (Britannica.com). Engineers often work in “specialized teams” that work on specific parts of a project. For example, teams could work on “aerodynamics, propulsion systems, structural designs, materials, avionics, and stability and control systems,” (Britannica.com). many engineers may “specialize” in a certain “aerospace product” like commercial aircraft, military fighter jets, helicopters, spacecraft, and missiles or rockets, (Bls.gov). Many engineers are employed by companies that contract for the Department of Defense.
Aerospace engineering began with the Wright brothers, “the fathers of modern manned flight,” (Britannica.com). World War I was the first boom for aircraft. Aircraft were “designed and constructed for specific military missions,” (Britannica.com). After the war, aircraft transitioned from military to civil air transportation. The 1920s and 1930s saw much advancement in aircraft design, engines, and metallurgy. A very important advancement was the introduction of the monoplane. The first “all metal monoplane” was designed and built in 1910, but was not accepted until 1933, (Britannica.com).
Clarence L. “Kelly” Johnson was an aerospace engineer and “aviation legend,” (Wvi.com). Johnson’s accomplishments were tremendous. “He played a leading role in the design of 40 world renowned aircraft,” (Wvi.com). Over half of the designs were his own. He became the “vice president-Advanced Development Projects” (ADP) or “skunk works,” (Wvi.com). Johnson’s “skunk works” team (Wvi.com) designed some of the most advanced a...

Nancy Harkness Love was one of the most influential women in aviation history. Born in 1914, the Houghton, Michigan native was the daughter of Dr. Robert and Alice Harkness. She studied at Milton Academy and Vassar, and had had her pilot’s license since the age of sixteen, while in high school. When at Milton Academy, a school that was strict about driving policies but did not have any rules against flying, she flew through a boy’s school’s campus as a prank, and got into trouble for it. When she left college, she took jobs in Beechcraft and Waco selling aircrafts before working for Inter-City Air Lines, owned and run by a young Princeton and MIT alumnus named Robert Love, whom she later married.

Many have heard of the Tuskegee Airmen and their accomplishments. They were a group of African American fighter pilots. They proved to be quite vital to the success of World War II. What many people may not know is the Tuskegee Airmen had several squadrons which fought throughout Europe during the war. The most famous squadron was the 332nd fighter squadron, they were commonly known as the Red Tails. Charles McGee was among those men apart of the Red Tail squadron. Charles McGee is one of most notable men in the Red Tails due to his accomplishments throughout the war. I will be explaining his life and all of his accomplishments throughout this paper on famous individuals in aviation.

Wilbur and Orville Wright were pioneers, skilled craftsman, and engineers not only in aviation but in many other trades as well. “They loved to tinker and experiment with mechanical things and it characterized the Wrights through out their lives. Each of the brothers had a deeply ingrained inquisitive streak that was nurtured in a home that was encouraged.” (Moolman, 1980, p. 107) They had a good family upbringing, but moved frequently. The Wright brothers paved the way for aviation to take off with their thoughts, ideas, and inventions.

The engineering section of aircraft manufacturing is quite old. It is characterized by a few firms that keep Rolls-Royce on its toes in terms of competition, like General Electric. The small number of firms can be justified by the high cost of starting of...

The Jung Typology Test is designed to give the participant a 4-letter formula which describes strength preferences of one’s personality type. The formula is based on whether the participant favors Extraversion or Introversion, Sensing or iNtuition, Thinking or Feeling, and Judging or Perceiving when it comes to the participant’s general attitude. One will also receive a Temperament, which is based on one’s personality type formula, and can be used to make somewhat accurate predictions of the participants preferred behavior. In this essay I will discuss the results that I received after taking the test. Having a personality type that prefers extraversion, sensing, feeling, and judging comes with many strengths and weaknesses when working in

Some colleges offer a degree in aerospace engineering; others offer a more generalized engineering degree with some coursework in aerospace engineering. These courses might include aerospace guidance systems, extreme-altitude material science, and the physics of high-altitude radiation. Internships, summer jobs, and any experience in the field are helpful, as entry into this industry is highly competitive. Many aspirants may need to relocate to California, Washington State, or Texas, where the majority of defense industry aerospace work is done, to work for companies such as NASA, Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Two years into their job an aerospace engineer can be planning on being Junior members of research staff are swamped with work, both in the lab and in offices, crunching data and organizing research.
Mr. Mendoza: I am an Engineer Specialist at CESSNA. I am more in the Aero Sciences department. We focus on aerodynamics, stability and control, and computational aerodynamics. We also develop flight simulators and business jets.
