INTRODUCTION Transportation plays a beneficial role in developing Canada’s economy. However, it consumes large quantities of energy and accounts for 28% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, which are increasing risks of global warming and climate change [1]. As a consequence, serious threats may occur such as severe storms, rising temperatures, rising sea levels, sea ice melting and a reduction in water supplies. Also it will compromise the health, survival and quality of life of future generations, plant life and wildlife. The purpose of the investigation is to analyze modes of transportation in terms of their fuel consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and the validity of their claims to minimize harm caused to the environment and allow …show more content…

In fact, the Sedan car has the lowest fuel cost of $128 per seat. Given the Aircraft manufacturer’s claim that travelling by aircrafts will result in half the fuel consumption of automobiles, it is concluded it cannot be stated as it is false. This is because the Aircraft per 100km consumes 20% more fuel than the minivan and 36% more fuel than the Sedan car. Since these percentages are less than 50%, an automobile manufacturer’s claim that automobiles consume half the fuel of Aircrafts cannot be …show more content…

However, the overall observations would remain accurate. Although the Sedan car must travel 120hrs and 21mins (refer to Table 1), it has the lowest fuel cost, fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and requires the least number of trees to offset emissions. Therefore, out of the vehicles analyzed, the car would least harm the environment for a Halifax to Vancouver trip. Through conclusions made, people can make better decisions that will reduce CO2 emissions and harmful effects to the earth to prevent serious consequences and keep the earth safe for future generations, plant life and
