Social media is a worldwide craze that all age groups are using, and it is being talked about daily by millions of people. This world we live in today revolves around technology, without social media the times would be completely different. In the twenty first century, social media is used for countless opportunities and is making it impossible to not be connected with everything around you. Carl Newport does not explore these ideas, thinking that he does not need technology for connections. The article title includes “Your Career May Depend on it”, however social media can help your career in many ways. I agree with social media to an extent, I feel it should not be the center of people’s lives, but it is a part of one’s daily routine and that is not a bad thing. People in our world need to out and be social but it’s not going to hinder their process by being on/ checking social media a couple times a day. Connections can be made in both atmospheres and can help you further your career, for example an art major might be able to sell their art online and make accounts for their specific likings. Careers can be seen in so many different way and it is not just through the office or what you are doing when you put social media down. It all plays into the same thing, what type of person you are and either way people are going to be able to see your personality. For instance, on Instagram, the pictures you post tell a lot about you, they can help your case but they can also hurt it. Someone can be posting pictures of their friends all dressed up for a charity event or it could be the other way around and they could all be at a party. Everything depends on the type of person you are, and social media doesn’t define you.
