I chose the painting Mexican Landscape to write about. Bror Anders Wikstrom painted Mexican Landscape in 1898. He was active in New Orleans from 1884-1909. He died when he was 47 years old, living from 1854-1909. The medium is watercolor on paper. The size of this painting is approximately 22in x 28in. I see trees, a big brown building, people working in the field, and mountains in the background. The subject of Mexican Landscape is a scene of a big building, with smaller buildings below it. There are also some mountains in the back that make the scene complete. The genre of this painting would be landscapes because this is an outdoor setting that has trees and other things you would commonly see outside. I found most of these lines in the brownish-tan building in the background. Horizontal and vertical lines mostly make up the building. The trees are made of curved and diagonal lines to make the painting look more realistic. There are many organic shapes in Mexican Landscape. All of the leaves are different colors, shapes, and sizes. As I look at this painting, I see secondary and tertiary colors. There are greens, tans, and light blue. Warm colors take over this piece. I do not see any primary colors in this painting. The further the trees are, the darker and duller the shade of green is. The closer the trees are, the lighter and brighter the shade of green is. Bror Anders Wikstrom did a good job filling in the background with the sky and clouds. The brush strokes the artist used for the trees gave the trees heavy, actual texture. The texture of the ground looks rough and hard which is another example of actual texture in this
