A really classic mexican food is called Mole. Mole is a sauce that has lots of spices in it. It is used in many mexican foods. Especially on chicken. Mole is made with chocolate and can be very sweet but also very spicy. The second most famous mexican food is called Flautas. A flauta is a tortilla rolled up usually filled with chicken and lettuce. It is a very savory food and can get paired up with rice and sour cream at the top. The last famous mexican food is called cachetada candy. Looking at different pieces of art work at the art museum and one-piece in particular impressed me. It’s called “View of Molo”, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal. Giovanni Canal was born in Venice, Italy in 1697. This particular piece was painted circa 1730-1735. The piece hangs at the El Paso Museum of Art in El Paso, Texas. The painting is part of the permanent collection donated by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation in 1961. The art work was done on canvas using oil. The painting can be found in the Baroque and Rococo Period Gallery.
Coming from a mexican culture, I am blessed to have a rich variety of traditional delicious home made recipes. Most people my age always salivate to the idea of their grandmothers making that amazing dinner. Mostly all americans can agree on the superb taste of the mexican food, and one of my favorites and most traditional of them all is the famous “Mole sauce”. It is made on special occasions such as birthdays, christmas, new years, and teenagers first communion at the church. This complex dark red spicy/sweet sauce has a legend behind its creation. It is believed in the mexican culture that it was made for the first time at the Convent of Santa Rosa in Puebla early in the colonial period. The convent nuns went into panic one day as they found out the archbishop was paying them a visit and they had nothing to prepare for him due to lack of wealth. The nuns prayed and put together the scraps of ingredients that they had left including chilli peppers, day old bread, nuts, some chocolate and spices. After they killed a turkey, cooked it and served it with the sauce on top, the archbishop fell in love with the dish. They asked the nuns about the dish and they responded truthfully with “I made a Mole” which is the anctient word for mix in spanish. There is also a few variations of this sauce within the mexican community, but the one I will be instructing you how to make is the traditional recipe that my grandmother learned from her grandmother; Mole poblano.

I chose the painting Mexican Landscape to write about. Bror Anders Wikstrom painted Mexican Landscape in 1898. He was active in New Orleans from 1884-1909. He died when he was 47 years old, living from 1854-1909.
Firstly, one aspect that is both Mexican and American is the cuisine. The original food for Mexico is very spicy and most of the time very colorful as well. Mexicans use spices, peppers, tomatoes, and cheese in many of the native dishes. They use an assortment of meat: pork, beef, lamb, and chicken. When Mexican restaurants spring up in the United States the food is toned down to appeal to Americans. The Mexican Americans use less spices to make the dishes milder rather than the hot, spicy native food. The food, still Mexican, takes on the likeness of American food. This is shown in the United States by all of the Mexican American restaurants such as Taco Bell. Therefore Mexicans have Americanized their food. “For Hispanics live on this side of the border, where Kraft manufactures Mexican-style Velveeta, and where Jack in the Box serves Fajita Pita.” (Rodriguez 131). Born in 1886 Diego Rivera was born to a wealthy family living in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of two his twin brother died and a year later Diego Rivera started drawing, his parents caught him drawing on walls and instead of punishing him nurtured his artistic side by enabling him with the supplies he needed. Throughout his life Diego Rivera was dedicated to art, “He began to study painting at an early age and in 1907 moved to Europe. Spending most of the next fourteen years in Paris, Rivera encountered the works of such great masters as Cézanne, Gauguin, Renoir, and Matisse.” Influenced by the work of such great minds Rivera began the search for his own signature and contribution to modern art, “Rivera was searching for a new form of painting, one that could express the complexities of his day and still reach a wide audience.” Rivera found the medium he was looking for, a form of street art involving murals painted on fresh plaster, he returned to Mexico to introduce this new form of art to the public. Pablo Ruiz y Picasso was born on October 25, 1881to Maria Picasso Lopez and father Jose Ruiz Blasco in Malaga, Spain. He was influenced in his early days by his father who was a painter and an art teacher. His first lesson was in 1888 and his drawing reflects a passion of his father, a fascination with bullfights. In 1891, Picasso moved with his family to Coruna where he enrolled in his father’s classes in ornamental drawing at the Escuela de Bellas Artes before progressing to drawing from figures and plaster casts and to painting from nature. In 1894, he experimented with more biting caricatures and satirical sketches in manuscript newspaper variously titled “Azul y blanco and La Coruna.” When he was 14 years, he began to study at the School of Fine Art in La Coruna. The ability to create a picture of The Annunciation in one’s mind is a key factor in understanding the analysis of the work. Francisco de Zurbaran approaches the painting with a naturalistic style. The painting features a room in which a woman – like angel is seen at the left kneeling on the ground before the Virgin Mary. The figure of Mary is placed between a chair and a small wooden table draped with a green cloth. Mary disregards an open Bible on the table, as she appears solemn while staring at the floor. Floating above the two main figures in the upper left side of the painting are cherubs resting on a bed of clouds. They happily gaze down at Mary with eyes from Heaven.
