Bullying In Patrick Piercy's Barbie Doll

This made her think less of herself. As Piercy states, “Her good nature wore out / like a fan belt” (Piercy 15-16). A person can only take so much before they wear down, and that is exactly what happened to the girl in “Barbie Doll.” She tried to listen what other people told her to do, but she could not keep up with being someone she was not. She was no longer mentally capable of pleasing others, so she killed herself.
Bullying in all forms hurts mental health. Adolescents who have experienced bullying in any way are often diagnosed with depression and have low self-esteem. His mom tried to reach out and ask for teachers’ help, but some teachers never took time to respond to her. While seeking help, Tyler’s mom found that one can reach out; the problem is that most people do not want to bother with it or be involved. In 2009, Tyler committed suicide at seventeen years old because he could no longer handle the bullying he was going through (Ollove). While no one knows the exact reasoning of his death, they do know that it was his way out of the pain he was feeling. In Tyler’s case, the teachers and staff were aware of the situation. Nonetheless, they did not bother to step in and fix the problem. He was reaching out for help, but no adult took the time to help him. Because the bullying was left untouched by those who could fix the situation, he killed himself as the answer. He could not take the bullying anymore, so death was his way out. His parents have to live with the fact that their son, who was bullied for a disability he could not control, committed suicide. They reached out and asked for help, but no one bothered with it. They allowed the bullying to continue, leading to Tyler’s suicide. Had one adult, one teacher, or one staff member stepped in when the heard of the problem, Tyler may still be alive
