Just imagine, being broke inside by the actions of others. Having a lost, hurt feeling that just aches away. Having to experience the humiliation of being talked down to, made fun of or even being beaten up in front of others. This is what victims of bullying endure everyday. “Cornered” a book by 16 authors, with 14 different stories about the horrific acts of bullying attempts to spread awareness on a problem that is known around the world. From being verbally and physically abused to feeling so lost that death might just be the only option. Bullying is an increasingly important problem for not only the victim but for the ones around them as well. Bullying is known around the world, and has a place in every race. “ But bullying starts with adults. It starts with controlling parents who will do almost anything to maintain that control, and teachers who don’t tolerate kids finding their ways of natural developmental stages.” ( Crutcher 2) This states that bullying thrives from somewhere. They all have a source for the rage and anger. In Kate Ellison’s story, “Like Kicking a Fence”, Jean-Carlos’s dad has died. Filling him with an uncontrollable anger. He begins to bully a young boy whose parents love him deeply. One day he beats the boy senseless because he had a bad day and didn’t have his father to go home to. His rage was caused by his father’s death, which led to him bullying others. When he realized what he had done, he felt so terrible inside and ran to hide. In “But Not Forgotten” by Jennifer Brown, Jenna, a young girl who had been severely bullied for being overweight, kills herself. “ There is no other way” (Brown 287) Jenna said to her best friend right before she took her own life because she couldn’t take the bullying anymore. Most people who are bullied are afraid to get help. They keep it bottled up inside until their breaking point. In most cases that breaking point is suicide. They believe that suicide is the only way to stop the pain.
