In deed on June 6, 1944, the little town of Bedford, VA, suffered a tragedy that would never be forgotten. But through the pain and hardship some of officers who leaded the Bedford boys displayed remarkable leadership’s principles. One of the basic functions of leadership is to unite people: bring people together to achieve common objectives. There is truth in the statement, where there is unity there is strength. This essay will offer a working definition of effective leadership principles and discuss the function of leadership as it relates to followers, motivation and power.
The school is huge and being a college prep school it is also selective in the students who get enrolled. The focus is on teaching and learning. The school seems predominately white with a few students of color.
The Ashcan School was a movement which was integral and in a way 1 inevitable with the infancy of the twentieth century. This movement in art was brought about by a handful of artists who converged on New York City around the turn of the century.2 The major Ashcan artists who will be discussed later are Robert Henry ( 1865- 1929), George Luks (1866- 1933), Everett Shinn (1876- 1953), George Bellows (1882- 1925), John Sloan (1871- 1951), and William Glackens ( 1870- 1938).3 These were the major members of the Ashcan School. This is a group of artists who are credited with documenting the ordinary life on a human level in New York City during this incredible time of transformation. Because of these artists we have a picture of New York not based on the monuments or buildings but based on the interaction and the coexistence of the people who shaped the society which was emerging.
I visited the Fremont High School campus in Sunnyvale today as they were having their Flex period. I was fortunate to have the principal, Bryan Emmert, walk me around the entire time and talk about the process; I then met with a few teachers afterwards to get their insights.
On my most recent visit to West Point Military Academy, I had the opportunity to visit our country's most prestigious military museum. As a scout I attended West Point's Camporees and camped on the cadet’s training grounds at West Point's Lake Frederick. I also participated in an orienteering course at Trophy point, where I first saw the famous cannon exhibit, and numerous statues and monuments. However, during my visits, I never had the opportunity to visit the West Point Museum.
Academic excellence is strongly emphasized along with respect for individual differences and flexibility of programming where needed. Each student is challenged to grow and develop to the highest reaches of his or her ability. As methods of reaching those goals, in 1997 the high school initiated a 4x4 block schedule after preparing the staff in a variety of teaching techniques and seeking support and approval from the community. The high school also pursued a relationship with Seton Hall University and is part of the Project Acceleration concurrent enrollment program that allows students to receive college credit while taking their high school courses. The middle school moved to a modified block schedule in September 2006, with an eight period schedule four days ( M, T, W, F) and a block schedule Thursday. This schedule allowed for three core classes to meet in an extended block every other week. In September 2009, the school added Tuesday as a block schedule day, allowing all six core classes to meet in an extended block each week. An advisory Program, providing each student with a staff member advisor who meets with students three times a week at the beginning of the day, was added to the schedule in September 2007. Additionally, a Thursday activity period each week is dedicated to student-initiated problem-based learning with a strong service learning component.
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, “A Hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Anyone has the power to be what they want, you do not need to have superhuman strength, or unhuman like abilities to be considered a hero. I have three years’ experience at a military academy. I am dedicated, and I am looked up to. Which is why I am my own hero.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold." The words of Don Vito Corleone graced my ears as I watched the Godfather, a movie that undoubtedly stood the test of time. The film, a byproduct of the Machiavellian genius of Martin Scorsese, an NYU grad, depicted vicious tribal loyalties and a form of vengeance to match every affront. Scorsese's triumph in the entertainment industry thoroughly displays the benefits of an NYU education: prestigious programs that elevate graduates for success in the so-called "real world". With vast degrees of programs from accounting to Woodwind studies, NYU provides a facet of creative learning and a method for students to explore their passion.

It appears as if the school district and administration feel transitions from school to school are very important. There is an awareness of the varying levels of abilities, so they utilize many forms of communication to make understanding as easy as possible. For example, video presentations are used during orientations, as well as, hands on involvement with teachers and administration. The parents and students are given written information to bring home because of how much material is provided. Anxiety levels can run high and the school personnel is aware of it, and tries to offer these various aids to improve social interaction.
