In order to make good battle scenes in movies and in books the battles need to be serious, they need to have gory deaths, and they need to have a determined leader. The Braveheart novel seems to capture these three elements much better than the movie does.
In the book the moments before battle seem much more serious. In the book the Scots under William Wallace could not wait to fight for their freedom, as a matter of fact, it was actually hard to keep them from rushing into it blindly. William on the other hand, was as serious as ever, he focused on his battle strategy so that they could win even if they were outnumbered. “...obstacles he could use for manuever and strategy to neutralize the superior numbers of the English.” (Wallace page194) This is a needed part in every battle scene because it really draws the reader's attention and makes the reader want to flip the page and peak at what is to come. …show more content…

William Wallace’s overall goal in both the book and the movie was to fight so that the scottish could be free. In the book he said, “We come here with no peaceful intent, but ready for battle, determined to avenge our wrongs and set our country free.” (Wallace page121) This is just one example of him showing that he is a strong and determined leader. Having a good leader is important in battle scenes because it gets the reader emotionally involved into the battle and makes the reader want to pick up a club or sword and charge into battle behind him. Him being a good leader makes the reader want to continue reading for entertainment. In the Movie he had some moments of being a good leader but most of the time it just seemed like he was just being selfish and doing it all for himself. The movie made me think that all he did was sture up more trouble all for his own revenge. That is not what a good leader does, and it is not inspiring nor does it keep me interested in the
