The American colonies are justified to be free and independent of British rule. The British had denied life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. By killing many innocent people, the British denied life. By keeping colonists under their control, the British denied liberty. By taxing, the British denied happiness. The colonists had initially left Great Britain to have freedom, but the British ignored that. The Colonists felt that Great Britain was taxing them too much and that the taxes were too high. The Colonists didn’t feel as though the British were treating them fairly. They were still a part of Great Britain when they left, so they should have been treated the same way British citizens who didn’t leave were treated. Instead, they were taxed differently, they were treated differently, and they didn’t like that. They felt that the British thought that the colonists were below them, they thought that the British wouldn’t listen. The Boston Massacre was an event that took place in Boston outside of a meeting. Colonists started to gather around a troop that was guarding custom officials, government officials, and loyalists. British soldiers killed innocent people, denying them life. Many of the citizens were armed with rocks or ice, though there were still many other citizens that were not armed at all. The citizens may have been throwing rocks and ice which may hurt, but the British were firing bullets, and bullets are almost guaranteed to kill. The British started to fire into the crowd without being given the order to open fire. Even though they thought they were being ordered to fire, when they were not, the British should have waited to fire until they were sure that they were being ordered to, and not just have followed one person who made a
