In the book “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner, the main idea is a group of people called the Gladers, and they are trying to escape a maze. A company named Wicked made it for them to find a way to escape.
In the beginning of this book, Thomas comes up to the Glade from a box. He doesn't know who he is or why he is in the Glade and Thomas has lost his memory about all the things he knew before getting in the Glade. Thomas now sees all these kids looking down at him and meets Alby. He also meets a friend Chuck and he is very nice to Thomas unlike everyone else. After Thomas gets a tour of Glade from Alby, Thomas doesn't know what the "maze" or the "walls" are.
Next, a girl showed up in the box and she's in a coma and no one knows her name or anything about her. After Thomas walks to the graveyard and Ben jumps on Thomas and he starts fighting with Thomas, Newt quickly came and saves Thomas. Thomas was wondering why Ben attacked and he finds out that he was stung by a Griever. Then he finds out what the runners are and meets Minho. When Ben comes back he's going psycho and Alby and Newt drag Ben out into the maze and banish Ben because he’s a harm to the Gladers

When they came back the sun vanished and supplies stopped coming. The girl woke up from her coma her name was Teresa.Then The maze doors werent closing and everyone is terrified. Gally comes back from the maze and then he died from the Grievers. Thomas and Teresa think of a plan and a code of the maze after they were done Thomas and Minho head back into the maze and have been there for 24 hours and Teresa finds words for a code. When one of the Socs tries to drown Pony, he goes unconscious and when he wakes up, he sees that Johnny has killed one of the Socs. The two boys decide to go to their friend Dally; he gives them money and directions to a church in the country. There they hide out for a long week, and after it Dally comes to find them. After eating, they return to the church and see that it has caught fire. A group of children are stuck in the burning building.

Tom feels guilty and ashamed about the irrevocable consequences of Daniel’s irresponsibility and the impact this had on other people and their families. Retreats into a depressed state which feels empty and black. After the accident, Tom’s life was changed forever.
People do not have to fly to be hero, it takes much more. Many heroes of today are shown to have supernatural powers that makes them acquire amazing abilities, flying, super strength, skills to manifest anything, the list goes on. Our heroes in the present time are perceived by the audiences' mindset to have special powers but there are times where being a hero does not need to have all the extra tricks. Thomas, a character in The Maze Runner is thrown unconsciously with no memory into a place of the unknown called the Glades, consisting of only teenagers inhabiting the area. He would soon find out the whole place is bordered by a big wall that closes by night and day to protect them from the maze that are filled with demonic machines that will kill on sight. This begins his adventure, eager to learn what is out there and willing to become a maze runner which is equivalent to being a tribute for the greater good in their little homemade society. Having powers might help to become a hero, but in the dystopian novel The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, his protagonist Thomas demonstrates the hero journey in a more natural way by crossing the threshold, meeting a mentor, and lastly having tests, allies and enemies.

Meanwhile, Thomas learns more about the Glade. He learns that the Gladers have been trying to solve the Maze for two years and that the Grievers sting can cause you to recall memories from the past. The process is painstaking and is dreaded by other gladers. He feels oddly connected to the new girl and also befriends a young and enthusiastic (if slightly annoying) Glader named Chuck. He also befriends a boy called Newt. On the other hand, he strikes up a somewhat negative relationship with Gally, who thinks suspiciously of Thomas and claims that he has seen him, after he was stung by a Griever, in a process known as the Changing. Thomas also feels an inexplicable urge to be a Runner, the people who explore, map out, and try to find a way out of the Maze.

This is the harsh reality for Thomas, a teenager living in a virus polluted and self-destructing planet. A deadly disease has broken out called “the flare” which causes the most sane and rational people to become raging and hysterical flesh eaters. Not only has the virus taken the lives of millions, but the extreme climates have also killed the few remaining. In the novels The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, Thomas and his friends will have to fight to survive a world taken over by the sick and protect one other from those who say they want to help. The two novels share a touching story of young lives entwined during a difficult time and the lengths the characters go through in order to survive the apocalypse. The ultimate question within these novels is what is one willing to risk in order to survive? Within the novels The Death Cure and The Scorch Trials, Thomas is forced to fight for his survival on a daily basis, and in doing so he is constantly faced with either having to betray those closest to him, or remain the honest and true man he is, in order to survive. Within these novels, relationships are tested to such extremes that the repercussions of each survival based decision the characters make have the possibility of endangering the lives of those closest to them, but ultimately is a test to see who remains true to themselves and does not sell out their friends or themselves.

Obviously, Societies fall as a result of a corrupt government, Failing Social Structure, and Sickness. It is due to these factors that many great societies such as Greece, Rome, and the society depicted in the book Maze Runner fall.
In The Maze Runner, Thomas and a bunch of other guys from the glade are stuck in a giant maze with no way out. Thomas is the main character and this is how he follows the hero’s journey and becomes a hero. Reasons are Call to adventure, Ordeal, Death\, and rebirth, Crossing the threshold.
For instance, when the people of the Glade discover that Ben got stung by a Griever, they immediately bring him to the entrance of the maze with bad intentions: Ben cries, “Please don’t! Please don’t do this!” (Ball) The boys began to use long sticks to usher Ben into the maze while it closes, intending to trap him in there. Under those circumstances, Chuck looked very disappointed and so ashamed that he walked away from what was happening. This practice displayed the savagery that goes on inside the Glade and how Chuck doesn’t believe that what the boys did was morally right. Furthermore, upon Teresa’s arrival, came the antidote to “the changing” (Ball). When a Griever stung Alby, Thomas used this cure on him in hopes to save him from the infection. Had the Gladers not jump into such ruthless actions so quickly, Ben would still be alive. To emphasize, Chuck also paid a visit to Thomas in the pit: “It’s just me, you’ll run better on a full stomach.” (Ball) Chuck’s concern for Thomas’s well-being supports his innocence because nobody else cared to bring Thomas food. Chuck acts like a brother figure to Thomas and these bonds need to grow throughout the community. In The Maze Runner, Thomas recalls nothing of his life except for his name. He finds himself surrounded by a bunch of boys. Like all the other Gladers, Thomas appears in the Glade terrified and disoriented. However, he senses a powerful bond to the Maze. He quickly exhibits courage and confidence when he saves Alby and Minho from the Grievers after they had to spend the night in the Maze.
In The Maze Runner there are main different themes but I feel that hope is one of the bigger ones would be bravery.In the Maze Runner Thomas shows the most bravery out of everyone and he’s pretty much the newest member. Many times throughout the story Thomas goes into dangerous situations to help others even if that means risking his own life. The novel is about a sixteen year old boy named Thomas who wakes up with no memory from where he came from or who he is or what he was doing there and in a metal cage box surrounded by many teenage boys looking at him weirdly. When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code.
