Blue gold, a book by, is a book that tells three different stories of three women, and how cell phones are truly made. Although this book is revolved around phones and phone use, the concern lies in if students should be able to have them at school. But, the question “should phones be banned from school" will have a definite reaction from students, some of them possibly being disobedient, withdrawals, and depression. While some might say that you can't have withdrawals from a phone, this statement is untrue because phones are addictive. Phones today are made to keep you engaged, to keep you on the phone for as long as possible without taking into the consideration of time or place. A quote by Tristan Harris "...every time I check my phone, I'm playing the slot machine to see, ‘what did I get?’ This is one way to hijack people's minds and create a habit, to form a habit." further proves my previous statement. while this true in reality you're just texting or calling someone while you're alone. Most people wouldn't like being alone, so that's why they fill all their time with social media, & social media is a good source of encouragement, compliments, & many other positive things. So when an adolescent is alone they get a sense that they're not alone. If social media were to be taken away, one would most likely suffer depression, because with lack of encouragement comes self-doubt and that's what depression is except a more extreme version. A quote by Louis C.K. “But people are willing to risk taking a life and ruining their own because they don't want to be alone for a second because it's so hard.” leads me to believe that people fear being alone & disconnected and will break rules to get back in touch, which leads me to my next
