Have you ever wonder how some people could change their mood from being happy to grumpy or depressed in matter of no time? Well this is why it is important to educate yourself about bipolar disease in order to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Understanding the definition, symptoms, treatment and resources surrounding bipolar will help create a society of educated individuals who are less likely to judge others. Since mental illness cannot be seen by the naked eye, it is imperative to educate ourselves. According to the website NHS “ Bipolar can be treated in couple ways including medication to treat the main symptoms of depression and mania when they occur, psychological therapies such as talking therapies, and lifestyle advice”(NHS 1). Medication can be use like many other medication control the illness. Psychological therapies can very helpful because a person with bipolar disease would feel good having a one on one talk with a professional that would understand them. And finally lifestyle advice would be very helpful because helping them improve their life would make them feel a sense of achievement. Although bipolar disease can be treated Mental Health.gov points out that “If not treated, bipolar disorder can lead to damaged relationships, poor job or school performance, and even suicide”(Mental Health 1). So this is why bipolar disease should be treated to prevent this.Now in terms of statistics according to the website Treatment Advocacy Center”. The condition was estimated in 2014 to affect 2.2 percent of the population or approximately 5.3 million adults in the United States aged 18 or older. An estimated 51% of individuals with this condition are untreated in any given year.
