In the early ages of criminology explanations for homicidal offending were blamed on supernatural events such as demonic possessions or evil forces. However, in the 18th century there was a major shift in criminology which used science to explain criminal acts. These criminologist were called positivist theorists, and they believed that “human behavior is influenced by biological and psychological factors that are out of their control.”(K.D74) Behavior in other words are determined by biological and psychological factors which don't allow people to control their criminal activities. One criminologist by the name of Cesare Lombroso, proposed the idea that some individuals were born to be criminals. He came to this understanding from studying the bodies of dead convicts, he believed that “these criminals were physically different from non criminals because of their primitive physical deformities.”(K.D.74) …show more content…
