Sir Michael Caine is one of the most renowned actors and authors of all time; from his young life of a starving artist to now starring in over 115 films and being honored on more than one occasion for several prestigious awards. He has become one of the most popular and influential English figures of all time.
Born Maurice Micklewhite in London, England on March 14, 1933, into an average household whose father was a fish porter and mother a cleaner, Sir Michael Caine began his journey to stardom. From an early age, Caine was always interested in show business. At the age of only 16 he left school to pursue the closest job to show business he could get, an office boy at Peak Films. In 1951 Caine joined the Queens Royal Regiment and the Royal Fusiliers to serve in Germany and Korea. Having two years gone by and now being out of the service, Michael went to work at Westminster Repertory in Horsham Sussex and then at the Lowestoft Repertory where he fell in love with his first wife, Patricia Haines. After marriage, Michael and his new found wife moved to London to pursue their acting careers. This took a toll on Michael because he had to subject himself to many degrading jobs to make ends meet. On top of all of the stress of not having enough money Patricia became pregnant and gave birth to their fist daughter Dominique. After only a couple years of marriage things were not working out so well with the two of them so Patricia took her daughter and moved back in with her parents. Michael felt responsible and hopeless and ended up holding all of the guilt for what had happened. Unemployed and broke, Michael moved back in with his parents. He won three Golden Globe Awards, one in 1984 for best performance by an actor in a motion picture for the film "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", one in 1991 for best performance by an actor in a mini-series or motion picture made for TV for the films "Jack the Ripper" and "Hemingway", and the last in 1999 for best performance by an actor in a motion picture for the film "Little Voice". He has also appeared as Alfred in the latest Batman movies which are nominees of several awards and what some could say he is known best for. Michael Caine is also the author of sever best selling books including "Acting in Films", "What's It All About", and "The Elephant in Hollywood".
One of his most famous quotes is "I'm older now; I don't get the girl, I get the role, which is much better." -Michael Caine. He may be older but he's still got it.
