Caused by a leak in the piped, which occurred because of poor maintenance and lack of routinely pipe checks. A factory that produced pesticides leaked a poisonous gas called methyl isocynate and a whole range of fatal chemicals into the atmosphere, creating a dense toxic cloud over the region. The accident has been referred to as the worst industrial accident of all time. It killed over 8,000 in two weeks.
Describes as the world’s greatest industrial accident, the gas leak caused over 16,000 people with at the least 550,000 injuries. Instead of being cleaned up, the accefted area was converted into a dumping ground for chemicals.
The UCC was convicted and blamed for the gas leak, and was mined millions of dollars.

1986- Chernobyl nuclear accident
Occurred on the 26th of April, at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine.
Overheating of the reactors, which caused an explosion and a fire that released radioactive particles into the atmosphere. Radioactive clouds formed, and spread across vast areas of Europe.
The clean up of the accident included 500,000 workers and 31 people died from the explosion.
Increased chance of cancer development and gene mutation in humans.
- The site is still too dangerous for human life
-Thousands of people died due to illnesses caused by the radiation
-The rate of cancers and birth defects increased dramatically

...e 6 nuclear reactor in the plant melted down. It is the largest nuclear accident since Chernobyl. 15,884 people died in that area as a result of the meltdown and the earthquake that preceded it. 300,000 people were evacuated form the area. The incident is expected to take decades to clean up. Many people’s chances of developing caner were increased as a result of the massive radiation released by the incident. Japanese authorities implemented a 20km2 exclusion zone around the affected area.
The radiation near the affected area caused a higher risk of different cancers in people (namely leukaemia and thyroid)
Soil in the area has been exposed to radiation, which means that it’ll take years and years until crops can be grown once again in that area. Contaminated water made its way into the rivers and oceans, contaminating marine life, making it dangerous to eat.
