Popular music today has evolved over time. This evolution is due to artists’ way of creating and combining different styles of music into one that captivates the listeners’ attention. Beyoncé and Rihanna are both popular female artists that caught the attention of many people through their musical styles. They are both superstars that have sold millions of albums worldwide. Although Rihanna arrived on the scene at a much later date than Beyoncé, they both share some similarities in success, writing styles, and performances. Both artists are very successful and have sold billions of recording albums across the world. Most her songs are based on relationships. She incorporates many genres together, such as R&B, pop and hip-hop into one song that makes it hard to identify the genre of the song. Every one of her songs has a different messages and a different style. For example, with her first single “Russian Roulette,” from the album Rated R, Rihanna explains that her intention was to make the song “dark with some kind of thing to it”; she wanted haunting vibe to go along with her song. Her message doesn’t come out clearly and it’s hard to memorize the lyrics when listening to it for the first time. It takes a couple of replays of the four minute song to understand that it’s about how dangerous love can be because it can lead to broken heartedness. She gets her name because she is acclaimed as one of the many greatest performers alive. She always radiates modesty and virtue though her performances by her natural voice and dancing abilities, attitude, and stamina on the stage. She gives 100 percent to all her performances and she never misses a beat. She is able to control her vocal chords as well as maintain the steps to her dance routines without “losing her breath” on stage. On the other hand, Rihanna wasn’t a vocalist at the start of her career. She often doesn’t put her all into her performances which end up lacking when compared to a street performance. She does have some dancing abilities and she has improved her vocal abilities as her career advances but she always lacks something on stage that makes her performance good rather than spectacular.
