The reason that I picked Paula is because I remember growing up watching So You Think You Can Dance, and American Idol with my family. Paula did many different things in her life time and still is doing a lot of new things. Whitney Houston to most was a very amazing and talented person who allowed life and its mishaps break her down. As a young girl she grew up in the church where she felt like it was a sign from God that she should be singing. Freud believes that religion is an illusion, an attempt to gain control over the external world. In his eyes saying that anything is a sign from God depends on how you vision life. There were times in her life where she would produce more music just to get thru the thing that she would be going through. She would use her music as a defense mechanism to get away from all of the abuse, problems with her marriage, neglect, and drugs. Defense mechanisms are ways to distort reality to reduce anxiety: Rationalization is giving a positive reason to a stressor and regression is withdrawing from reality and going to pastime.
What are some types of Rand B music that stands out in the world? In this essay I would be discussing three types of Rand B music; rhythm and blues, contemporary r and b, and r and b soul. Rhythm and blues regularly abbreviated as R&B, is a classification of popular African American music that started in the 1940s. Music can sooth the soul if one listens to different kinds of R&B music. In this essay, I would like to discuss the different categories of R&B music. There are many types of music in the world however, the one that stands out in everyone's brain is the sound of rhythm and blues. It has been around for a very long time. It has taught individuals interest around the globe. Rhythm and blues began in the late 1940s by slaves in the south which brought about new music, designed, and move styles.
“Like I said, Nikki was confused when I abandoned her. Rad, on the other hand was angry.” (Blake, 12) You look at Rad and see she was always more popular, constantly taking to guys, buying the latest, “just in” lipstick and being just Radical. When you see Anna walk down the halls you can just tell people are just constantly judging her. “...and the whole world remembered that i’m socially irrelevant.” (Blake, 1) Rad in everyone’s eyes, is the stereotypical perfect high school girl. Anna on the other side with her antisocialness, not always being the ideal her, and constantly stressing herself out, makes more room for the difference between them. They start off cold, and warm up in the end, soemthing many do not take note of.
Robert was born on April 16, 1945 in St. Ann Jamaica (Stambler 442). When Robert was four, his father told his mother that they both were going to live with his nephew in Kingston. Eighteen months later, his mother found out that Robert was not going to school and he was living with an elderly couple. His worried mother went and got him. His mother moved on and married a more stable man named Edward Booker and had to leave Robert behind. Robert was homeless when he was eighteen years old. In 1963, he started living with his friend, Vincent Ford. Both were very poor. They would sing so their minds wouldn’t be on food (Bob Marley).
Hip-hop and rap music are commonly criticized for its anti-feminist lyrics and degrading exploitation of women in music and music videos. (Sharpley-Whiting ) Many feminists have taken action against the music industry, which produces these messages in the music they release. However, in the hip-hop genre there are plenty of successful female rappers promoting feminist views, artist such as Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige have made the choice to condemn the derogatory culture towards women. (Oliver, 382–384) However others female hip-hop artist, such as Lil Kim or Rihanna, have decided to provide no resistance towards the deleterious depictions of women in their music and in turn sometimes exploit themselves. Due to her extreme fame, success, and controversial image, at the front of this discussion is female rapper Nicki Minaj. Nicki Minaj is challenging the common view of women in hip-hop by proclaiming feminist ideologies through the art of reclaiming the genres negative undertones towards women and by providing an opportunity for women to be seen as equals rather than objects.
The reputations of Maria Callas and Madonna as divas have both been earned for different reasons and yet, both can easily place their titles next to each other. All their musical performances have and are adapted to suit the public eye and sheltered by each singer’s creative influence, in order to improve their labels as divas. √ you give your reader a sense of the discussion that will follow, which is good.
On the 11th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Mariah Carey was given the chance to induct Gladys Knight and the Pips who were a soul and R&B family group into this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Madonna and Maria Callas are both singers whose personality and presence are often given more weight than the strength of their technical performance. Madonna's vocal ability, Jones tells us, was largely considered "the weakest aspect of her performance" (Jones, 2008 p.165). This is evident throughout Material Girl (The Diva, 2008, track 1), where the singing quality is weak, and shows little of the vocal agility one might expect from an operatic diva. Madonna's voice, as Jones puts it, is "lacking in power and resonance" (Jones, 2008 p.165). Similarly, Callas, "battled throughout her career against vocal problems" (Philip, 2008, p.178), although Philip admits Callas' considered technical ability varied between commentators. Philip mentions an "aggressive warble" (Philip, 2008, p.178) in th...
In conclusion, she is a very good role model. She is a good role model because she shows people it is good to give to charity and she is a hard worker. She also shows that you don’t need to have inappropriate songs or inappropriate performances to be popular. This is why she is my favorite superstar and I wanted to write a research paper on her.
