Best Practice Strategies

Lesson Plan Reflection
Best Practice strategies are necessary to incorporate into daily lessons because they are researched measures that have been proven to work effectively. If used properly, best practices can help instructors better their craft of teaching, while, in return, students become better learners.
Nonlinguistic Representations/ Graphic Organizers
This lesson incorporates the best practice of nonlinguistic representations through visuals such as maps of Egypt, and Egyptian artwork. Subsequently, by adding graphic organizers for student to take notes, engages the thinking process and allows students to access the information again at a later time; more specifically, when it comes time for students to write their paragraph summary.
Generating and Testing Hypothesis
The second best practice of generating and testing hypothesis occurs in this lesson when students are given the objective of proving if the statement: was the Nile River a gift to the ancient Egyptians accurate. By using this hypothesis, students know what the objective of the lesson is, and what question they must answer in order to prove

Cues and questions posed by the instructor help facilitate this process. This best practice strategy was incorporated in this lesson when students were introduced to the lesson and given the objective. Later in the lesson, when students must begin making inferences, cues are given when I make my own inferences about the artwork and map of Egypt. Cues are also given when I introduce the new vocabulary. Explicitly stating what some of the items are in the artwork allows students to understand what is occurring in the still image. Lastly, discussing the terms geography and climate helps students access their prior knowledge and improves the likelihood that they will be able to make inferences when viewing the map of Egypt based on what they already know about geography and
