Being successful in high school is not about achieving perfect grades. Your success is measured by how you are as a student. There is an obvious misconception, that you have to be intelligent to thrive in the academic setting. After three years of highschool, I have come to realize that one's brain power rarely affects their ability to learn anything. The intent of high school was not to make students come out smarter, it was to make students become better learners. The first step to becoming a better student is changing your attitude. It is extremely beneficial for students to show up to class on time, and ready to work. If a teacher walks into the classroom and you are there doing something, whether it's reading or doing work for one of your classes, it creates a good impression. Furthermore, applying yourself can make a world's difference in your assignments. When you apply yourself, there is an automatic response in assignments that proves that effort was exerted. Doing assignments that aren’t worth marks may seem useless, nonetheless, these assignments will allow you to strengthen your skills. Using practice assignments will demonstrate your investment in your education, and if you do these assignments, and you still don’t understand the content, your teacher will be more likely to help you. Asking questions will also show that you are serious about furthering your understanding. Being afraid to ask questions it useless on account of it being your teacher's job to assist you in learning. Another way to furthering your understanding is to ask for additional practice. This will show your ability to take your learning into your own
