Ludwig Van Beethoven Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Germany in the city of Bonn but his birthdate is debated to be around December 16, 1770. He was taught at a young age by his father. He was a little anti -social and many historians believe he was difficult to get along with. Beethoven played not only the piano but composed music and played the viola as well. He played the viola in many orchestras which allowed him to meet influential people of which helped shape his style. At the age of about twenty-one he moved to Vienna Italy where he went to study. About two years later he started his career as a pianist and composer. At the turn of the century he began to notice his hearing was leaving him. This caused him to lengthen himself even further from society. Constantly asking people to repeat themselves would get tiresome and frustrating. It is sometimes hard to put ourselves in his shoes with all the technology we live with we could easily just go down the road and get some hearing aids. In Beethoven’s case he probably had to constantly ask people to speak up and repeat themselves. Also your hearing is going and you probably are close to a light yell even for you to hear yourself. Thus causing people to more than likely look at him differently and cause him to want to keep his distance from them at all times. He wrote sixteen string quartets and thirty two piano sonatas. He was even writing and publishing works at the age of twelve. Which was called 9 Variations in C Minor for piano. He received praise from many people and his father constantly considered him to be the next Mozart. Even with all of this going for him at the age of 16 his mother passed away, whom may have been the only person in the family ... ... middle of paper ... ... the ground must make a wonderful melody as they strike different things on the ground. Even the smells that nature has to offer could have influenced the music that he wrote. He finished the work in 1808 and was first performed at the end of that year on Dec 22, 1808. There is a happy upbeat nature about this symphony and we will only be taking look at the first 14 min and 13 seconds of the symphony. Probably wanting to hear the noises of nature that were not abundant in the city life he was used to living. This particular symphony almost paints a picture for the listener as Beethoven takes you from scene to scene in the countryside which the music represents very well.
Beethoven was a political composer. He stubbornly dedicated his art to the problems of human freedom, justice, progress, and community. The Third Symphony, probably Beethoven's most influential work, centers around a funeral march provoking patriotic ceremonies from the French Revolution. Beethoven was a long time admirer of Napoleon Bonaparte. So he dedicated the symphony to Napoleon, but when Napoleon was proclaimed the Emperor of France, he scratched the dedication to Napoleon. This Symphony is cited as the marking end of Beethoven's classical era and the beginning of musical Romanticism. But what of Beethoven after Napoleon? Beethoven's life and music became worse after the Third Symphony was composed because of his reaction to Napoleon becoming Emperor, his deafness, and through his personal and family difficulties.

Its hours and hours being put into a work of art that may only last, in reality, for a few moments...but if done well and truly appreciated, it lasts in our hearts forever. That's art, speaking with your heart to the hearts of others.” Starting at a young age Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven have done just that with their musical compositions. Both musical composers changed the world of music and captivated the hearts of many. Their love of composing shared many similar traits, though their musical styles were much different.
Beethoven’s early life was one out of a sad story book. For being one of the most well-known musicians one would think that sometime during Beethovens childhood he was influenced and inspired to play music; This was not the case. His father was indeed a musician but he was more interested in drinking than he was playing music. When his father saw the smallest sliver of music interest in Beethoven he immediately put him into vigorous musical training in hopes he would be the next Mozart; his training included organ, viola, and piano. This tainted how young Beethoven saw music and the memories that music brought. Nevertheless Beethoven continued to do what he knew and by thirteen he was composing his own music and assisting his teacher, Christian Neefe. Connections began to form during this time with different aristocrats and families who stuck with him and became lifelong friends. At 17 Beethoven, with the help of his friends, traveled to Vienna, the music capitol of the world, to further his knowledge and connection...
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was undoubtedly one of the greatest composers of not only the classical era, but of all time. On January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, Austria, Mozart was born into an already musically talented family. His father Leopold, a composer and musician, and sister Nannerl toured parts of Europe giving many successful performances, including some before royalty. At the young age of 17, Mozart was appointed Konzertmeister at the Salzburg Court. It was there that young Mozart composed two successful operas: “Mitridate” and “Lucio Silla”. In 1981 he was dismissed from his position at the Salzburg Court. He went on to compose over 600 works including 27 piano Concertos, 18 Masses (including his most famous, the Requiem), and 17 piano sonatas. Mozart was not often known for having radical form or harmonic innovation but rather, most of his music had a natural flow, repetition and simple harmonic structure.
He performed publicly in Vienna in 1795 for the first time, and published his Op. 1 and Op. 2 piano sonatas. His works are traditionally divided into three periods. The first is called the Viennese Classical, the second is the Heroic, and the third is Late Beethoven. In the first period, his individuality and style gradually developed, as he used many methods from Haydn, including the use of silence. He composed mainly for the piano during this period. These works include Symphony no. 1 in C (1800), his first six string quartets, and the Pathétique (1799). His Moonlight Sonata in C# minor (1801) is known as the first of Heroic Beethoven. Beethoven learned that he would become deaf in 1802 and suffered sever depression. His composing skills were not affected by his deafness, but his ability to teach and perform was inhibited. It is said that he became deaf from his habit of pouring cold water over his head while composing, to refresh himself, and then not drying his massive amounts of hair afterwards.

This impairment reshaped his music. This led the way to a very tense and exciting side of his pieces. Beethoven's music differs with Mozart's in that is more intense and has a greater range of pitch and dynamics. Ludwig van Beethoven was born in the town of Bonn, Germany on December 16 of 1770. Bonn is located in western Germany on the Rhine River. Beethoven showed an affinity for music at an early age. His father, Johann, taught Ludwig to play the piano as well as the violin. Johann did this in hopes that his son would become a prodigy, and then reach fame like Wolfgang A. Mozart. Unfortunately though Beethoven mother died when he was seventeen. In addition to his mother’s death Beethoven’s father developed an alcohol problem. To escape these problems Beethoven found a job tutoring the two children of the von Breuning family. This relationship proved to be beneficial to Beethoven. The matriarch of the family happened to be well liked in the town of Bonn, so she introduced Beethoven to a few important people.
He suffered a severe form of tinnitus, a "roar" in his ears that made it hard for him to appreciate music and he would avoid conversation. The cause of Beethoven 's deafness is unknown, but it had variously been attributed to syphilis, lead poisoning, typhus, or possibly even his habit of immersing his head in cold water to stay awake. Over time, his hearing loss became worst, at the premiere of his Ninth Symphony, he had to be turned round to see the tumultuous applause of the audience, hearing nothing. In 1802, he became depressed, and considered committing suicide. He left Vienna for a time for small Austrian town of Heiligenstadt, where he wrote the "Heiligenstadt Testament", in which he resolved to continue living through his art. He continued composing even as his hearing worsened. After a failing his perform in 1811 his own "Emperor Concerto”, he never performed again. As a result of his hearing loss, Beethoven kept conversation books discussing music and other issues, and giving an insight into his thought. Even today, the conversation books form the basis for investigation into how he felt his music should be performed, and his relationship to art - which he took very seriously. Beethoven was best known for his use of the piano wide range and for his nine symphonies, which have been called the cornerstones of Western civilization. Symphony No. 5 in C minor, composed by the legendary Ludwig van Beethoven, is one of the most famous orchestral musical compositions done by the German-born composer. The symphony is broken down into four movements. The symphony has such a profound effect on so many people because of its use drama by introducing sudden and powerful chords which quickly grabs the audience’s attention as well as creating a variety of musical ideas through his use of excitement by way of fast and slow tempos. The first movement, Allegro con brio, which utilizes the Sonata form, contains an opening sequence or Exposition, which initially compels my attention during its first 6 seconds due to its powerful entry and introduction of the basic four-note motive (short-short-short-long) of the piece. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony I attended Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on October 14, at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Southwestern Seminary Oratorio Chorus, directed by C. David Keith, performed. Ludwig Van Beethoven composed the work. He composed it between 1811-1824. Beethoven composed the work in D minor, Op.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was regarded as one of the greatest musical composers of the 19th century. Beethoven’s compositions are considered to be a watershed moment in western musical history. According to scholar Scott G. Burnham, “The overmastering coherence felt in Beethoven’s music became an imposing measure of the greatness of musical artworks.” Part of Beethoven’s greatness can be linked to the inner turmoil he dealt with throughout his life. Part of this turmoil was caused from his hearing disability which ultimately resulted in his deafness. Beethoven felt isolated due to his illness, but this isolation greatly affected the music he composed. The Fifth Symphony was a testament to that. Out of Beethoven’s nine different symphonies, the Fifth symphony is regarded as one of his greatest compositions. The Fifth Symphony is a total of 4 movements, and has a four-note opening motif in C- minor which is considered to be fate knocking at the door.
His father was a tenor court singer, while his grandfather was a prosperous musician in his community. Beethoven’s father was an alcoholic, and there are accounts of people saying that his father taught Beethoven music with extreme brutality. His father would beat him for every mistake he would make. This trauma affected his life in many ways. In Maynard Solomon’s book, Beethoven, he claims that Beethoven, gave up on establishing loving relationship with anyone; he withdrew himself from his society of friends and parents, as well. His happiest moments were those when he was free and away from the company of his friends and parents (Solomon). Beethoven’s father put together Beethoven’s first public recital in 1778. Even though he played brilliantly, Beethoven received no press or praises for his first recital. Additionally, Beethoven struggled with math and spelling for his entire life and said that music comes easier of him than words. Near the age of ten, he discontinued his secular education and went to study music full time. Beethoven was forced to financially support his family after his father’s alcoholism grew worse. He was sent to Vienna to study with Mozart to further his musical education. He later also trained with Haydn. This is where Beethoven’s musical journey

His creative method was extraordinary: his writings show that he almost always wrote a complete composition mentally before finally writing it on paper. Mozart created 600 works in his short life of 35 years. His works included 16 operas, 41 symphonies, 27 piano concerti, and 5 violin concerti, 25 string quartets, and 19 masses.
