There is a difference between law and ethics, and both are essential when becoming a strong Medical Assistant. Both will be discussed for this post. The way I understand the reading, is that Law and Ethics are often very related, but they are not the same and one may not affect the other. If something is illegal it is always unethical, but if something is not ethical it’s not always illegal. Our text gives the example of, “cheating on a test.” Fremgren (2015). Cheating is very unethical, in my opinion, but it’s often not considered illegal. “Laws are rules or actions prescribed by an authority such as the federal government and the court system that have a binding legal force.” (Fremgren 2015, p.7).
