Basketball Decisions

Playing sports has always been something that I enjoy, even since I was little. Going outside and playing sports was always fun and enjoyable. When I was in fifth grade, I decided to join a basketball team. The things that I love about basketball are how competitive it is, how your mindset changes during a game, and the skills that are learned while playing. I enjoyed knowing that I could improve my skills just by practicing outside in my front yard because I loved practicing. Whenever I would steal the ball or make a shot in a game, it only made me want to keep playing and improving. I joined all honors classes and one AP class in tenth grade, so I had to make the difficult decision of whether I should continue to play basketball for the school team or not. Making the decision to quit playing basketball teaches me that overall, my opinion is the only opinion that matters. Smaller decisions can be made with help, but larger and more important decisions that may affect your life personally need to be made based off of your own thoughts and feelings. If I had taken the advice of some of my friends to play basketball, I might have received poor grades in my classes. I am very glad that I made the decision myself to quit basketball. I know that if I continued to play, my anxiety levels would be far worse than they are with just school and two sports. It makes me feel sad not playing basketball for the school because it is the sports that I have played and loved for most of my childhood, but quitting felt like the best choice, considering the consequences of playing.
