Avenged Sevenfold's debut album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, released on their first label, Good Life Recordings, in 2001. Taking its name from the Book of Revelation, the album references the sounding of the last (seventh) trumpet, signaling the end of the world. Even though the album only sold 300 copies in its first week of release,it currently has sold 370,000 copies worldwide as of November 2010. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is widely agreed as Avenged Sevenfold's heaviest album, with chugging guitars, very little clean vocals, and ferocious in your face drumming by The Rev. When the members began making the album, The Rev used his amazing improvisational skills and recorded all of the drums for the album in one take, and the other members added their parts onto The Rev's foundation. The album was certified gold on July 15, 2009, even though it only sold 3,000 copies on its first week of release; as of August 2014, it has sold over 693,000 copies in the United States. The album features a more refined vocal style compared to the screaming of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, but still continues the metalcore style of their debut album. Waking the Fallen is considered Avenged Sevenfold’s best album, and many of their songs were featured on sports video games such as NASCAR Thunder 2004, Madden NFL 04, and NHL 04, helping the band get recognized by the public and eventually sign a record with Warner Bros.Records. Critics have heavily praised the album, saying “the band delivers with unflagging aggression and precision.
